KATHUA, JULY 28: The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit CHESHTA of Government Degree College Hiranagar today organised a plantation drive under the banner ‘MERI MATI MERA DESH’ here in the premises of historic Jasmergarh Fort.

The event saw an overwhelming participation from enthusiastic forty NSS volunteers. The highly motivated team consisting of Naresh, Manohar, Parshotam, Arun, Sohan Lal, and Ram Kumar diligently dug 75 pits to ensure the successful planting of a variety of saplings.

The assortment of saplings included Neem, Gulmohar, Arjan, Peepal, Guava, and Sukhchain which were carefully selected to promote biodiversity and ecological balance in the region.

The Kali Mata Mandir administration played a crucial role in facilitating the plantation drive, highlighting the spirit of community collaboration and shared responsibility towards preserving nature’s bounty.

The whole event was spearheaded by NSS Program Officer, Prof. Ajay, who stated that the NSS unit CHESHTA is committed to promoting ecological awareness and sustainable practices among the youth, and this event is just one step towards a greener, healthier future for our nation.

Principal GDC Hiranagar Dr. Pragya Khanna, extended her invaluable support and guidance, emphasising the significance of such initiatives in building a sustainable ecosystem.

Among the NSS team members, Prof. Rakesh, Prof. Manjot, and Dr. Usha contributed significantly to the success of the event, motivating and guiding the volunteers throughout the process.
