The Ceremony and PM’s Message
Prime Minister Modi visited Vijay Ghat early in the day to offer flowers at the memorial. He was joined by other senior leaders, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who also paid their respects at the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan (Parliament House).
Following the physical ceremony, PM Modi shared a powerful message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), highlighting Shastri Ji's legacy. He praised the former Prime Minister, calling him an "extraordinary statesman" whose simple lifestyle, honesty, and strong will helped India during difficult times.
In his message, the Prime Minister recalled Shastri Ji’s iconic and unifying slogan: "Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan" (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer). He stated that this slogan still ignites a feeling of patriotism among citizens.
The PM emphasized that Shastri Ji’s life and work continue to motivate the country in its efforts to build a strong and self-reliant India.
Shastri Ji's Role in India's History

His vision focused on making India self-sufficient, especially in defense and food production, which his famous slogan perfectly summarized.
Leaders from across the political spectrum joined the nation in paying homage. President Droupadi Murmu also offered tributes to Shastri Ji at Vijay Ghat. Separately, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also paid his respects, highlighting the former PM’s focus on humility and the rights of ordinary citizens.
