New Delhi: India marked its 77th Republic Day on January 26, 2026, with a spectacular parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. This year’s celebrations revolved around the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” commemorating a historic milestone in the nation’s journey. Weeks of preparation culminated in flawless performances, as full-scale rehearsals translated into disciplined formations and precision drills by the armed forces.
The 2026 Republic Day parade highlighted India’s growing defence capabilities and operational diversity. One of the most talked-about moments was the historic appearance of the Army’s “four-legged warriors.” For the first time, a marching contingent of camels, ponies, and dogs took to Kartavya Path, drawing widespread admiration from spectators.
As always, the parade stood as the centrepiece of the national celebrations, offering a powerful display of military strength alongside the country’s vibrant and multi-hued cultural heritage.
The ceremony was attended by top dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President of India. European Commission Vice-President Kaja Kallas was also present at the event.
In a special initiative highlighting inclusivity and cultural richness, the government hosted couples from every state and Union Territory as “Special Guests.” At least 50 couples from each State and UT, dressed in traditional attire, graced Kartavya Path, symbolising India’s unity in diversity and giving citizens from across the nation a front-row view of the grand celebrations.
