Chief Justice of India Surya Kant announcing AI judiciary platform

New Delhi: In a major push towards modernizing India's judiciary and tackling the massive backlog of cases, Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant announced the upcoming launch of an AI-driven digital platform for real-time case tracking across courts.Key features of the initiative include:
  • Real-time auto-updated case status — Orders from trial courts, High Courts, and the Supreme Court will sync instantly, creating a unified, transparent repository of pendency data.
  • Digital payments through an Integrated Online Payment System (IOPS) for administrative services like AoR exam fees, creche facilities, and more — bringing transparency and eliminating manual hassles.
  • Automated records and infrastructure tools, including the newly launched PARKS App (Park Authorisation Record Keeper) for vehicle permissions and campus security.
CJI Surya Kant described the move as "some good news," stating the judiciary is actively harnessing AI to boost operational efficiency and reduce case pendency — a chronic challenge in the system. This builds on ongoing digital reforms under e-Courts projects and follows the recent reconstitution of the Supreme Court's AI Committee to guide broader adoption of technology in courts. As per the latest National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) figures, India continues to grapple with crores of pending cases:
  • District & subordinate courts: Over 4.7 crore pending (majority civil & criminal)
  • High Courts: Around 63 lakh+
  • Supreme Court: Nearly 93,000 pending
The new platform aims to enable faster implementation of orders, better coordination between courts, and ultimately quicker justice delivery for millions of litigants.A step in the right direction for transparency, speed, and accountability in the justice system? ⚖️🚀What are your thoughts — will AI tools finally help break the "taarikh pe taarikh" cycle?
