DM Samba Ayushi Sudan interacts with residents in rain-affected Bedheri village

 SAMBA, AUGUST 24: District Magistrate Samba Ayushi Sudan today undertook an extensive tour of the rain-affected areas in the district, including Bedheri, Manohar Gopala, Mananu and Chak Manga to take firsthand stock of the situation arising out of incessant rainfall.

During the visit, the District Magistrate personally interacted with the local residents, patiently listening to their grievances and concerns. She assured the people that district administration stands firmly with them in this hour of difficulty and that every possible measure is being taken to mitigate their hardships.

The DM directed the officers of line departments to immediately initiate damage assessment of houses, crops and public infrastructure, and to prioritize restoration of essential services in the affected habitations. She stressed upon prompt coordination between Revenue, PWD, PHE, Power and Rural Development Departments to ensure swift redressal of issues being faced by the public.

Ms. Sudan also visited the Community Hall, Samba, where several families displaced due to the rains have been temporarily accommodated. She reviewed the relief arrangements including food, drinking water, bedding, medical aid, sanitation facilities and issued on-the-spot directions for ensuring that all basic needs of the affected families are met without delay.

Highlighting the importance of preparedness, the District Magistrate emphasized that disaster response is not only about immediate relief but also about long-term resilience. She asked officials to keep close vigil on vulnerable locations, maintain readiness of machinery and ensure public advisories are disseminated widely to avoid any untoward incidents.

AYUSH doctors conducting health checkup camp at Utterbehani Samba

 SAMBA, AUGUST 24: An AYUSH health checkup camp was organized at at Utterbehani   on the eve of Amavasya.

The camp was conducted as per directions from worthy Director JK UT Dr Nuzhat Bashir Shah madam ji and worthy Deputy Commissioner samba Ms Ayushi Sudan and under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Renu Dass, the District Nodal Officer AYUSH Samba.

A medical team from AHWC Moutlian and GAD Salmeri comprising of Dr Sonika (MO AHWC Moutlian), Dr Tabassum ( MO GAD Salmeri), Satish Salathia(W&W) and Kanta Devi (ASHA Worker Moutlian) provided essential health services to a large number of beneficiaries.

The primary objective of the camp was to provide comprehensive health checkups and promote public awareness about benefits of AYUSH and  to enhance the overall health and well-being of the residents by offering accessible traditional and holistic healthcare services.

A total of 588 beneficiaries received health services during the camp. The pilgrims expressed their appreciation for the initiative and actively participated in the health education sessions.

JAMMU, AUGUST 24: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today visited Government Medical College in Jammu to enquire about the health of citizens injured in Chashoti flash floods.

The team of doctors briefed the Lieutenant Governor on appropriate and specialized treatment and integrated approach to the care of injured for their quick recovery. It was informed that 16 people are presently under-going treatment at GMC Jammu and being monitored by senior health staff.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of his visit, the Lieutenant Governor reiterated the commitment of the administration to trace the 32 persons who are still missing.


“Government stands firmly with the bereaved family members who have lost their loved ones. Along with relief and rescue, the Government of India and J&K Administration is working on ensuring quick rehabilitation of the families affected by the tragic natural calamity. Search and rescue operations are underway on war footing to trace the missing persons,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He further advised the people to take all necessary safety precautions. Advisory was issued today on inclement weather. NDRF and the SDRF are prepared to respond to emergencies, he said.

SDRF teams rescuing stranded residents in Jammu floods

 JAMMU, AUGUST 24: The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been conducting extensive disaster management operations in various areas of Jammu, following heavy rains that led to water logging and disruption of normal life.

The SDRF teams, equipped with specialized equipment and trained personnel, have been working tirelessly to rescue stranded people in affected areas.

Key Operations:

During the rescue operations SDRF teams have rescued numerous people trapped in waterlogged areas, including homes, roads and other Residential Facilities in and around Jammu city.

SDRF personnel under the supervision of DSP SDRF 2nd Bn Jammu Dinesh Gupta rescued about 45 students trapped in IIM Hostel using inflatable boats and life saving jackets.

Areas of Operation:

SDRF teams have been deployed in different areas of Jammu, including areas of Tawi River at different locations including Talab Tillo, Lower Bakshi Nagar etc.

          Teams have also been working in coordination with local authorities, including the district administration, police, and other agencies.

          Commandant SDRF 2nd Bn. Jammu (SSP) Zahid Naseem Manhas, while talking to the media persons said "The SDRF teams are committed to support those affected by the heavy rains. We are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the people in the affected areas."

JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav inspecting flood-affected areas in Jammu

Orders swift restoration and public safety measures

JAMMU, AUGUST 24: In the wake of incessant heavy rainfall causing waterlogging and damage in several parts of the city, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu (JMC) Dr. Devansh Yadav today carried out a comprehensive inspection of the affected regions to assess the situation and ensure immediate redressal measures.

The Commissioner visited several low-lying and rain-affected areas including Gangyal, Digiana, Gandhinagar, Kalika Colony, Bahu Fort, Janipur, Roopnagar, Chinor, Bantalab, Talab Tillo, Bhagwati Nagar and other vulnerable localities that faced the brunt of heavy rains. During the visit, Dr. Yadav interacted with local residents, listened to their grievances and assured them that all possible measures were being initiated to mitigate the situation.

Dr. Yadav instructed the Engineering, Transport and Sanitation wings of JMC to undertake immediate restoration work on a war footing. He directed the teams to expedite the drainage of accumulated water, deploy additional manpower and necessary machinery including suction pumps and dewatering units to clear stagnant water and inspect drainage channels, storm-water lines and culverts to identify blockages and remove debris obstructing water flow. He further directed the officers to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of flood-prone zones to avoid further damage and inconvenience to the residents.  Dr. Yadav appealed to the residents of Jammu to exercise utmost caution during this spell of heavy rainfall. He urged citizens to refrain from visiting low-lying areas unnecessarily, stay away from overflowing rivers and drains and avoid dumping waste into drainage systems, which aggravates waterlogging.

The Commissioner reiterated JMC’s commitment to provide continuous support and relief to the affected areas in coordination with other line departments and the district administration. He stated that additional teams have been kept on high alert to respond promptly to any emergency and helplines are active to receive public complaints. Dr. Yadav also emphasized the importance of long-term preventive measures, stating that the corporation is working on strengthening the city’s drainage infrastructure and implementing sustainable solutions to minimize the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

DC Reasi Nidhi Malik chairing debriefing session on Adi Karamyogi Abhiyan in Reasi Jammu Kashmir

REASI, AUGUST 23: Deputy Commissioner Reasi Nidhi Malik today chaired a debriefing session with officials who had participated in the UT-level workshop under the Adi Karamyogi Abhiyan.

The meeting focused on reviewing key takeaways from the workshop and charting out a comprehensive plan for implementing the initiative at block and 44 identified tribal villages.

During the deliberations, it was decided that Master Trainers will be identified in every block from key departments including Education, Medical, Forest, Jal Shakti, and Rural Development Department (RDD). These trainers will be imparted structured training as per the scheduled modules, enabling them to further disseminate knowledge and practices at the grassroots.

Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner directed that Village Level Committees be constituted in a time-bound manner. These committees, working in close coordination with the Master Trainers, will prepare and implement village-specific action plans with a special focus on the welfare of tribal communities and ensuring that the benefits of the initiative reach the last mile.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of inclusive and participatory development. She added that The Adi Karamyogi Abhiyan is a unique opportunity to strengthen grassroots governance and empower our tribal communities. With the active involvement of all stakeholders, we can ensure that the vision of holistic welfare and sustainable development is realized in every village of Reasi.

The session concluded with directions to all concerned departments to work in close synergy and submit a timeline-based roadmap for effective roll-out of the programme at both block and village levels.

JAMMU, AUGUST 20: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo today remarked that research-driven education is key to addressing contemporary challenges and building a knowledge-based society.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing a Two-Day International Conference on Emerging Trends in Multidisciplinary Research (ICETMR-2025), after its inauguration, organized by Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College here today.



MLA Jammu East, Yudhveer Sethi; Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, Shantmanu; Vice Chancellor Cluster University of Jammu, Prof. K S Chardrasekar; noted academician of Jammu University, Prof. Rajnikant; Principal, GGM Science College Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta, eminent academicians, distinguished dignitaries, invited speakers, delegates from diverse disciplines and large number of students were also present on the occasion.

In her Presidential Address, the Minister lauded GGM Science College for its commitment to academic excellence and for providing a platform to young researchers. Commissioner State Taxes P.K. Bhat chairing GST review meeting in Jammu

Directs for boosting tax revenue, curbing tax evasions

JAMMU, AUGUST 19: Commissioner State Taxes, Jammu and Kashmir, P.K. Bhat today chaired a comprehensive review meeting with State Tax Officers (STOs) of the Jammu Division today here as a precursor to second quarter of the financial year 2025-26.

The meeting, held at the Excise and Taxation Complex here, focused on assessing departmental performance, addressing challenges and discussed strategies for enhanced revenue collection and tax compliance.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Administration & Enforcement, Jammu, Namrita Dogra along with State Tax Officers from all circles of the Jammu division. The outer circle officers joined the meeting through virtual mode.

Commissioner Bhat, during the meeting, emphasized on the critical role of the State Taxes department in strengthening financial discipline and boosting revenue to meet the fiscal targets for 2025-26. He directed officers to aim for a significant revenue hike by adopting proactive measures and leveraging technology to curb tax evasion.

“Our goal is to ensure robust tax compliance while fostering a business-friendly environment. We must utilize every tool at our disposal to achieve these objectives,” he stated.

Bhat also highlighted the need to crack down on dormant dealers, ensure timely filing of returns and monitor Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) payments.

He instructed officers to intensify field inspections, particularly in cash-heavy sectors like banquet halls, catering services, and retail, to ensure compliance with GST regulations.

The Commissioner stressed the importance of scrutinizing E-Way Bills to prevent revenue leakage and urged officers to harness GST Prime and BIU for real-time data analysis and monitoring of high-risk sectors, including cement, iron, and mobile industries, where tax violations are more likely to occur.

During meeting, key discussions also centred around optimizing the use of technological tools such as GST Prime, E-Way Bills, and Business Intelligence Unit (BIU) to identify and address tax defaulters effectively.

Additional Commissioner, Jammu Namrita Dogra presented a detailed circle-wise performance analysis, identifying areas for improvement and outlining actionable strategies for the remaining quarters.

The session concluded with a renewed commitment from the officers to implement the Commissioner’s directives with vigour and dedication. The department reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen tax administration, enhance revenue collection, and create deterrence among tax defaulters through technology-driven enforcement and strategic oversight.

UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 18: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai today chaired the meeting of District Level Coordination Committee to review and finalize the Phase-II data of the 11th Agriculture census in the district.

The meeting was attended by IAS Probationer Seerat Baji, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Umesh Shan, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer Darshan Kumar besides all Tehsildars and other officers and officials concerned.

At the outset, District Statistics Evaluation Officer Darshan Kumar gave a detailed presentation on the Phase-II data of the 11th Agriculture census pertaining to the district.

The Deputy Commissioner took a detailed Tehsil-wise review of the data captured in Phase-II data of the 11th agriculture census, which includes information on the number of agricultural operational holders, land utilization patterns, tenancy status and availability of irrigation facilities.

Emphasizing the need for accuracy and reliability, the DC directed all Tehsildars to scrutinize the data carefully and ensure that every entry is correct, precise and acceptable.

Rajesh Sharma inspects Kathua flashflood damages 2025

 Directs immediate restoration measures

KATHUA, AUGUST 18: Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma today visited Katli road on Dayala Chack–Billawar stretch to take stock of damages caused by recent flashfloods. He directed the PWD authorities to ensure temporary restoration of the damaged road at the earliest and prepare a comprehensive plan for permanent solution of the affected assets.

The DC also visited Sanyal Bridge, where a portion of the approach road has sunk due to flashfloods. He directed the contractor to immediately install safety crates to safeguard the bridge and ensure protection of the approach road.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited Tehsil Office Dinga Amb where he chaired a meeting of officers to review the situation. He instructed the CPO to prepare a detailed proposal under SDRF for temporary restoration works, while directing PHE and PDD departments to submit reports of damages caused to public assets in the recent rains.

On the occasion, a deputation from Pacca Kotha also met the Deputy Commissioner. The Deputation members apprised him of the damages in their area. The DC directed the ADC concerned to visit the spot and assess the losses to initiate necessary action.

The visits were conducted in the aftermath of torrential rains that triggered flash floods, cloudbursts and overflow of major tributaries and Nallahs, resulting in damage to roads, bridges and other public infrastructure in the district.

ADC Vishavjeet Singh, SDM Hirangar Phulail Singh, ACD Akhil Sadotra, CPO Ranjit Thakur and other concerned district officers were also present on the occasion.

Rakesh Minhas reviews Jammu–Akhnoor National Highway project

 JAMMU, AUGUST 18: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Rakesh Minhas today reviewed the progress of work on the Jammu-Akhnoor National Highway project.

He inspected and reviewed work on Package 1, Package 2, Package 3A and Package 3B covering stretches at Bhagwati Nagar, Ganesh Vihar, Muthi, Domana, Ambaran, Chak Singha and Hanuman Chowk.

General Manager Project Management Unit NHIDCL Col. Ajat Shatroo Jamwal briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the status of the project.

The Deputy Commissioner assessed challenges and hurdles and issued directions for swift execution and expedited progress. He assured full administrative support for the project to ensure its timely completion. A timeline of 8 months has been set to complete the remaining work.

 

Surinder Choudhary visits Kathua cloudburst relief camp 2025

KATHUA, AUGUST 18: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary today visited the relief camp established at SIDCO Ghati Industrial Estate, Kathua to take stock of arrangements being extended to the families affected by the recent cloudburst.

The Deputy Chief Minister interacted with the displaced families, heard their concerns and assured them of full government support.

“The government stands shoulder to shoulder with the affected families in this hour of crisis. Every possible measure will be taken to ensure their immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation,” the Deputy Chief Minister said while addressing the victims at the relief camp.


During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister also inspected the nearby bridge connecting the adjoining villages of Ghati which was damaged in the incident. He directed the concerned authorities to take up immediate restoration work. “Restoration of connectivity is the top priority and the administration has been directed to execute works on war footing,” he asserted.

The Deputy Chief Minister also visited the Military Hospital Pathankot where he enquired about the well-being of the injured admitted following the Ghati cloudburst. He appreciated the timely response of the medical staff and instructed them to provide best possible treatment to the injured till their full recovery.


Later, the Deputy Chief Minister visited Government Medical College Kathua where he met the injured and families affected by cloudbursts and flashfloods at Jakhole and Janglote. He assured them that all necessary assistance including medical care and rehabilitation support, will be extended without delay.

“The safety and well-being of the people is our foremost concern. The Government will leave no stone unturned in providing relief and rebuilding the damaged infrastructure,” the Deputy Chief Minister reaffirmed.

He also directed the district administration to maintain round-the-clock monitoring in all calamity-hit areas and ensure timely assistance to the affected population.

In Marh, he reviewed the functioning of the Revenue Department with SDM Athar Amin and Tehsildar Ram Krishan Rathore. He stressed timely delivery of services, strict adherence to PSGA guidelines and regular reviews to avoid delays.

In Akhnoor, he held a similar review with SDM Mukhter Ahmed and Tehsildar Naresh Kumar, besides other revenue officials. The Deputy Commissioner instructed officers to identify developmental projects, prepare proposals and ensure their timely execution and delivery.

He also inspected Jia Pota Ghat, highlighting its potential for development, and reviewed progress on the under-construction municipal complex in Akhnoor subdivision.

 

Javed Ahmed Rana inspects Batidhar Mendhar athletic track

MENDHAR, AUGUST 18: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today conducted an inspection of the under-construction Synthetic Athletic Track at Batidhar, Mendhar. It is a key infrastructure project being developed at an estimated cost of 600 lakh.

During the visit, the officials briefed the Minister that nearly 40% of the construction work has been completed so far.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, the Minister emphasized the need to accelerate the remaining work without compromising on quality standards.


In a major boost to the project, the Minister also announced the commencement of additional supporting infrastructure at the site. This will include construction of change rooms, spectator seating tiers and protective works, sanctioned at an additional cost of 200 lakh.

These enhancements are aimed at improving the overall utility of the facility and preparing it to host athletic events.

Reiterating the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment towards promoting sports in border and remote regions, the Minister said the project will play a vital role in providing improved infrastructure and meaningful opportunities for the youth of Mendhar and surrounding areas.
