JAMMU: In a heartfelt celebration of perseverance, passion, and athletic excellence, the Jammu & Kashmir Masters Games Association (JKMGA) organized a grand felicitation program at the historic Amar Singh Club. The event was inaugurated by Sh. Ranjit Singh Chib, former SSP, international handball player, and President of JKMGA, who emphasized the importance of Master Games in promoting lifelong fitness and breaking stereotypes about aging.

The primary objective of the program was to promote Master Games, specifically designed for athletes aged 30 and above. These games aim to instil a competitive spirit while encouraging physical well-being among experienced sportspersons. Speaking at the event, Ranjit Singh Chib highlighted how master athletes continue to inspire all generations by proving that age is no barrier to excellence.

The program honored the conveners of the 7th National Masters Games held in Dharamshala, where 110 players from Jammu participated across 11 different sports and brought home an impressive total of 87 medals—44 gold, 28 silver, and 15 bronze. The conveners recognized included Ajay Sharma (Athletics), David Sandhu (Swimming), Late Virinder Sharma (Judo), Er. Rajiv Sharma (Table Tennis), Dayal Singh (Weightlifting), Ramesh Sharma (Badminton), Bhanu Pratap and Mousami Verma (Basketball), Anil Abrol (Chess), and Neete Kaur (Powerlifting and Handball).

Also honored during the event were Dr. Sonia Chib for her valuable physiotherapy services and Chef-de-Mission Praval Sharma along with Rameshwar Singh Manhas Chairman R.S Sports Academy Miran Sahib for their roles in promoting sports. The recognition extended to other outstanding contributors including Sandeep Gupta, Badminton Captain and Regional Director of IGNOU Jammu, Mamta Bajaj, Captain of the 40+ Handball team and international player, Renu Ratan, International handball player, and Vinay Sharma, a respected handball coach.

A proud moment for the region was the recognition of Tajinder Singh (IPS), DIG in J&K Police, who brought laurels by winning a bronze medal in the 7th National Masters Games. His achievement was celebrated as a fine example of how even the most demanding professional roles can coexist with high levels of sporting performance.

A particularly proud moment for the region was the recognition of Neete Kaur, General Secretary of JKMGA, who made history by becoming the first woman from Jammu & Kashmir to participate in the World Masters Games held in Taipei in 2025. As the captain of the women’s handball team, she brought immense pride to the region and was honored for her groundbreaking achievement.

Neete Kaur also took the opportunity to highlight the growing success of the Masters Games in Jammu & Kashmir, with 20 active games being played across the union territory and participation in 11 national-level disciplines. She praised the media for their crucial role in promoting the movement and helping bring recognition to the efforts of these athletes.

In recognition of their contributions to the promotion of Masters Games in Jammu & Kashmir, the association also honored prominent sports journalists including Vikas Abrol, Vivek Sharma, Ranjit Thakur, Sanjay Puri, Ratan Sharma, Vivek Suri, Kunal Duggar, Sanjeev Sharma, and Raj Kumar. President Ranjit Singh extended a heartfelt thank you to all media personnel for their consistent support and coverage.

The evening's most celebrated moment was the special felicitation of Romesh Sharma, a seasoned and highly respected badminton player for showcasing exceptional skill and determination by winning three gold medals in the Seventh National Masters Games. His achievements serve as a shining example of dedication and excellence in the sport.

JKMGA also felicitated Danish Yousuf, a JKP athlete, who was awarded the title of Best Athlete of the Seventh National Masters Games. Danish won five gold medals in five events and set two national records—completing the 100-meter dash in 10.9 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.0 seconds. His achievements were hailed as extraordinary and a source of inspiration for athletes across the country.

The program was attended by a host of dignitaries and sports supporters, including Deepak Honda and Ranjot Singh Nalwa, who graced the occasion as special guests, along with Romesh Sharma, Kuljit Singh Jamwal, Somraj Gupta, Rakesh Singh Salathia, Rajesh Sumbria, Meetu Singh, Pankaj Malhotra, Mohit Verma, Sudesh Raina, and Rajendra Singh. The event was beautifully conducted by Mamta Bajaj, whose energy and passion elevated the evening’s spirit.

This celebration truly embodied the spirit of sportsmanship—an occasion of the sports professionals, by the sports professionals, for the sports professionals, which is the very essence of JKMGA.

In his closing remarks, President Ranjit Singh Chib reaffirmed the association’s commitment to honoring athletes, promoting the values of fitness and health, and supporting initiatives that build a stronger, healthier India through sport. Srinagar June 29th, 2025: – In a highly anticipated and thrilling finale, General Bikram Singh Hockey Club Baramulla has been crowned champions of the 11th annual Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Valley Hockey Championship 2025. They secured a decisive 3-2 victory over Singhpora Sports Club, concluding a tournament that not only showcased the region's burgeoning hockey talent but also profoundly honored the legacy of the Sixth Guru Sahib of the sikhs. Organized by Hockey Jammu & Kashmir, the event captivated audiences and reinforced the sport's growing prominence.

The Baramulla squad, demonstrating exceptional resilience and strategic prowess under the guidance of Hockey J&K, delivered a compelling performance. Arshdeep Singh (Jr.) initiated their scoring in the 10th minute, with Arshdeep Singh (Sr.) swiftly doubling the lead in the 30th. Despite a spirited comeback from Singhpora Sports Club, featuring goals from Hardeep Singh (12th minute, penalty stroke) and Jaipal Singh (58th minute), it was Manmeet Singh's crucial 44th-minute goal that ultimately sealed the championship for Baramulla. Sumeetpal Singh of General Bikram Singh Hockey Club was deservedly recognized for his outstanding play, earning him the Player of the Match award.

The closing ceremony was notably graced by MLA Baramulla, Janab Javaid Hassan Beigh, who commended the players' dedication and announced a substantial ₹10 lakh grant for ongoing stadium maintenance. Distinguished guests included Gurdeep Singh Sangral, President, Hockey J&K, and Ex-DIG S. Keerat Singh Ji, a revered patron whose generous sponsorship provided the cash prizes: ₹25,000 for the champions and ₹15,000 for the runners-up.

A significant appeal was made by the players for the long-promised AstroTurf installation, a project sanctioned over 15 years ago but hampered by persistent land allocation challenges. Responding to this critical demand, MLA Beigh pledged a resolution within two to three months, assuring the development of a world-class hockey stadium for Baramulla.

Under Gurdeep Singh Sangral's visionary leadership, Hockey J&K continues its steadfast commitment to nurturing young talent and revitalizing the Valley's rich hockey tradition. Srinagar June 5th, 2025:  The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory is set to showcase its promising athletic prowess with the selection of 20 exceptional young players—10 boys and 10 girls—who will represent the region at the prestigious 20th Junior National Soft Amateur Tennis Championship. Scheduled for June 26th to June 30th, 2025, in Panchkula, Haryana, this tournament serves as a vital platform for the development of junior athletes nationwide.


The selection process, executed today at Gindum Stadium in Srinagar, was overseen by Raja Ghulam Nabi Wani, Chairman of the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association. The athletes were chosen through a rigorous merit-based evaluation, meticulously monitored by the J&K Sports Council to ensure transparency and integrity in the proceedings.

In his address to the newly selected athletes, Chairman Wani expressed his profound admiration for their accomplishments. "It is truly inspiring to witness such remarkable talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir. These young athletes have exhibited exceptional skill and unwavering dedication, and I am fully confident that they will represent our Union Territory with distinction, achieving commendable success on the national stage."

Wani highlighted the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association's commitment to grassroots development, asserting that nurturing young talent is vital for fostering a culture of discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship. He extended special appreciation to the J&K Sports Council for its consistent support in enhancing sports infrastructure, enabling such selection processes to thrive.

"This championship is not only an opportunity to compete but also a chance for our players to gain invaluable experience against some of the best in the country," Wani stated. He conveyed his best wishes to all the participants, encouraging them to strive for excellence and elevate their performance.

The selected teams will engage in a comprehensive training camp prior to their departure for Panchkula, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.  BHADERWAH, MAY 06: As per the annual calendar of activity 2025-26 approved by the Director Youth Services & Sports J&K (UT), the Department of Youth Services and Sports zone Bhaderwah today organized an inter-school zonal level tournament for  Under 14/17 Boys and Girls in the discipline of Kho-Kho, Volley Ball, Badminton, Athletic, Football, Tug of War, Yoga, Cricket, etc.

The tournament began with Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Carrom, Chess, and athletic competitions, under the overall supervision of District Youth Services & Sports Officer Pritam singh

Assistant Development Commissioner Anil Thakur was the Chief Guest, while local Tehsildar Kamalpreet Singh was the guest of honour at the opening ceremony.

The host School  Principal Kapoor Singh; ZPEO Vijay Kotwal; NCC Commandant  Arif Rana; REKs, NYCs and other sports lover were also present. Student players drawn from Govt as well as private schools of zone Bhaderwah are participating in the tournament.

 The Chief Guest ADC interacted with the participants and advised them to make physical exercise, games and sports as their routine in life for overall personality development. He praised the enthusiasm and dedication shown by the students.

The competitions were coordinated by the trained officials of the department of youth services & sports department zone Bhaderwah.

 
DODA, MAY 05: The fourth day of the Inter-School Zonal Level Competition 2025–26 unfolded with energy and enthusiasm at Ghat-Doda, spotlighting an impressive display of talent by Under-14 Girls across multiple sports disciplines.

Organized under the leadership of District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Pritam Singh and coordinated by Zonal Physical Education Officer, Zone Ghat, Surinder Kumar, the day’s events featured competitions in Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho-Kho, Badminton, Chess, Carrom, and Yoga.

A total of 127 young athletes, representing various schools from across the region—including remote and underserved areas—competed with remarkable passion, skill, and sportsmanship. Their spirited performance was a testament to the growing culture of grassroots sports in the district.

The event’s success was made possible through the tireless efforts of the dedicated field staff of Zone Ghat, who ensured smooth execution and a professional competitive environment.

Addressing the gathering, Pritam Singh lauded the participants for their enthusiasm and highlighted the importance of such events in identifying and nurturing future sports talent. He underscored the critical role of physical education in fostering a healthy and active lifestyle among youth. Surinder Kumar also commended the athletes and expressed appreciation for the meticulous coordination by the organizing team.

With momentum building day by day, the Inter-School Zonal Level Competition continues to be a vibrant platform for young athletes to shine, setting the stage for even more thrilling performances in the days ahead.


 DODA, APRIL 08: In a significant initiative to promote Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Mission, the Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the District Youth Services and Sports Office, organised girls' sports competitions in Zone Ghat and Zone Bhagwah , today.

The event was conducted under the directions of the District Development Commissioner with the objective to empower the girl child through active participation in sports and raising awareness about the importance of girls' education and well-being.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of over 200 girls representing different educational institutions and panchayats from the two zones. In Zone Ghat, a Kabaddi competition was organised, while at Zone Bhagwah witnessed thrilling Volleyball competitions. The atmosphere was vibrant and filled with enthusiasm, as the young girls showcased their strength, skills and team spirit on the ground.

The competitions aimed not only to provide a platform to the girls to display their sporting talents but also to convey a strong message about gender equality and the importance of supporting the girl child in every aspect of life. Through such programs, the district administration seeks to foster self-confidence, leadership, and a healthy competitive spirit among young girls.

Officials from both departments were present at the venues to motivate and encourage the participants. The initiative was highly appreciated by the community, and it reinforced the commitment of the district towards the holistic development and empowerment of girls in rural and remote areas of Doda district.

 


DODA, APRIL 03: In line with the directives of the District Development Commissioner, Department of Social Welfare, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports organized girls’ sports competitions under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.

The event, held in two zones—Bhaderwah and Bhallessa—aimed to promote the empowerment of girls through sports and encourage their active participation in physical activities.

A total of 90 girls from different institutions and panchayats of twin   zones participated in the competitions. Zone Bhaderwah hosted Kabaddi, while Zone Bhallessa organized a Volleyball competition, allowing young athletes to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The initiative emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities to girls in both education and sports, fostering confidence and leadership qualities among them.

The event not only celebrated the sporting talent of young girls but also served as a platform to raise awareness about gender equality and the importance of empowering the girl child.

Encouraging participation in sports plays a crucial role in breaking stereotypes and inspiring young girls to pursue their dreams fearlessly. The initiative was widely appreciated by the participants and community members, reinforcing the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the role of sports in shaping a progressive society.


 JAMMU, MARCH 08: Government Degree College Marh celebrated the outstanding achievements of its student athletes in the 47th Annual Inter-Collegiate Athletic Meet organized by the University of Jammu recently.

Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul felicitated the athlete medalists, acknowledging their dedication and hard work. He also appreciated Physical Director Ravi Kumar for sharp and apt selection of the college team.

Ghansham of Bsc. Sem IV, showcased exceptional athletic skill by securing gold medals in both the 100 meters and 200 meters sprints. He has been conferred with the title of “Fastest Athlete of Jammu University”. Additionally, he contributed to the college's success by earning a Silver medal in the 4x100 meters relay race. Lucky Sharma of BA Sem II secured the gold medal in the 800 meters race, showcasing exceptional athletic talent and also the clinched  silver medal in the 4*100 meters relay race. Mohit Sakolia of B.Sc Sem VI, won Bronze medal in the shot-put event, adding colours to the college in the meet and also got silver medal in the 4*100 meters relay race. Rajat Singh of BCom Sem II, another talented athlete, played a crucial role in the 4x100 meters relay team, securing a silver medal for the college.

 Jammu: At just 14 years old, Hafsah Khanday, a right-arm medium-fast all-rounder from Gadi, a remote village in the erstwhile Doda district of Jammu & Kashmir, is making waves in the School National Under-19 Women’s Tournament 2025,being held at the BN Cricket Academy Ground, Udaipur (Rajasthan). Standing at 5'9", she generates extra bounce and pace, making life difficult for opposition batters. In J&K’s 51-run victory against IPSC (Indian Public School Conference), Hafsah delivered a match-winning performance, picking up 3 wickets for just 12 runs in 3 overs, while also contributing 14 runs with the bat.

Hafsah’s journey has been anything but easy. A 9th-grade student, she has overcome several challenges to pursue her passion for cricket. Growing up in a remote village with limited facilities, she relied on her determination and the unwavering support of her parents to continue her training. Despite the hardships, she has already started making a mark in the domestic circuit and has set her sights on representing India’s Under-19 Women’s World Cup team in the near future, with her ultimate dream being to play for the Indian Women’s National Team.

Her impact in the match against IPSC was remarkable. With the ball, she rattled the opposition, dismissing three key batters cheaply while maintaining an economy rate of just 3.33 runs per over. Her aggressive short-pitched deliveries and raw pace made scoring difficult for the batters. She also played a crucial role with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 14 runs off 33 balls, helping Jammu & Kashmir post a competitive total.

“I am grateful to my parents for their continuous support. Coming from a small village, I never imagined I would get such opportunities. My dream is to wear the India jersey one day, and I am working hard to make it happen,” Hafsah said after receiving the Player of the Match award.

SRINAGAR: The 25th District Srinagar Sqay Championship, organized by the District Sqay Association Srinagar, concluded today at the Polo Ground Sports Complex in Srinagar. Mr. Shakil Hafiz, President of the Kashmir School Federation, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

The championship featured over 100 talented boys and girls, aiming to promote the traditional martial art of Sqay and provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills.

In his address, Mr. Hafiz highlighted the importance of sports in shaping the youth and commended the District Sqay Association Srinagar for their commitment to promoting Sqay in the region.

The championship included various events and competitions, with winners receiving prizes and recognition. The main theme of the event was to create a drug-free Srinagar.

  J&K Athlete shines at Commonwealth Junior, Cadet Fencing Championship 2024

SRINAGAR, JULY 15: Chhavi Sharma, a promising athlete of Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, Jammu and Kashmir, has made the nation proud by securing a bronze medal in the Sabre Girls team event held at the 2024 Commonwealth Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship, Christchurch, New Zealand. 

The other team members representing the country included Zaferlin from Tamil Nadu, S. Tanvi from Karnataka and Tanishya Singh from Delhi.

Pertinently, KISCE Fencing has been established at M.A Stadium Jammu, where athletes receive regular training under the expert guidance of High Performance Manager, Coaches, and Scientific Staff.

Former Member of J&K Sports Council & International qualified Referee in Fencing, Rasheed Ahmad Choudhary, Senior Fencing Coach JKSC,. Rachna Jamwal, and Fencing Instructor JKSC, Shottu Lal Sharma, applauded the performance of young fencer Chhavi Sharma.

Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, congratulated the JKSC athlete and the Indian team contingent, emphasizing that KISCE’s Fencing and Rowing facilities in Jammu and Srinagar respectively are designed to prepare athletes for international competitions. 

Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, has also conveyed greetings to the athlete.
