Kargil, Ladakh — November 14, 2025: Under the nationwide celebrations of Janjatiya Gaurav Varsha Pakhwada, the 1st Tribal Sports Conclave concluded successfully today at the SAI Centre Kargil, and Chiktan Kargil marking a historic milestone in promoting tribal sporting talent in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The event was organised by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), University of Ladakh, under the aegis of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.

Designed to encourage and empower tribal youth through competitive sports, the conclave featured Taekwondo and Boxing Championships with an impressive participation of over 200 athletes, including teams from Ladakh Police at SAI Centre Kargil and Kho-Kho Game at KGBV Chiktan. The event brought together emerging tribal sportspersons from across Ladakh, offering them a dynamic platform to demonstrate their skills, discipline, and commitment.

The closing ceremony was held in a vibrant and inspiring atmosphere.

DySP DAR Kargil, Shri Tundup Dorjey, presided as the Chief Guest while as Syed Mehraj Uddin Shah, General Secretary, Ladakh Kho Kho Association, attended as the Guest of Honour and Safdar Ali, Treasurer, District Kargil Olympic Association, graced the event as the Special Guest.


The tournament received technical and logistical support from the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, Ladakh Amateur Boxing Association and Ladakh Kho-Kho Association ensuring smooth conduct of all competitions.

Addressing the gathering, DySP Tundup Dorjey congratulated the participants and emphasized the significance of such initiatives in strengthening the confidence and visibility of tribal athletes.
He stated that, “Events like the Tribal Sports Conclave serve as a motivating force for our tribal youth. They embody the spirit of courage, discipline, and unity cherished by Bhagwan Birsa Munda. This platform will go a long way in fulfilling his vision of empowering tribal communities.”

He further appreciated the Tribal Research Institute and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for their continuous efforts to nurture sports culture among tribal populations.

Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary, Ladakh Taekwondo Association and Chief Organiser of the conclave, expressed sincere thanks to, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the Tribal Research Institute, University of Ladakh, and All supporting sports bodies including SAI Centeelr Kargil for creating Ladakh’s first-ever Tribal Sports Conclave. He noted that the event has opened new doors for tribal athletes to showcase their talent at regional and national levels.

The conclave concluded with the presentation of medals, mementoes, and trophies to players, coaches, and officials. The top performers were, Best Boxer (Boys), Shujat Ali, and Best Boxer (Girls), Kulsoom and Best Taekwondo Player (Girls), Asiya Banoo and Best Taekwondo Player (Boys), Tajammul Hussain.

The 1st Tribal Sports Conclave stands as an important step toward identifying, nurturing, and uplifting tribal sporting potential in Ladakh. It reflects a broader vision of inclusion, empowerment, and recognition of tribal communities through sports excellence.

 


KARGIL, APRIL 08, 2022: Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Judge, High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman, Ladakh Legal Services Authority UT of Ladakh today inaugurated office of Legal Aid Defense Counsel at District Court Complex, Kargil.

Justice Sanjeev Kumar inaugurated the LADC  in presence of Spalzes Angmo, Member Secretary Ladakh Legal Services Authority and Iqbal Ahmad Masoudi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kargil/Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Kargil.

The Legal Aid Defense Counsel system has been adopted by NALSA for providing free legal aid in criminal matters on the lines of public defender system on pilot basis and for strengthening and making legal services more professional.


The inaugural ceremony was attended by Shafiq Mushtaq Lone, Incharge Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Kargil/Munsiff Sankoo and Shabir Ahmad Malik, Munsiff Drass besides APP Kargil, President Bar Association Kargil, Bar Members, Para Legal Volunteers, Court Staff and Litigants.

On the occasion, Justice Sanjeev Kumar stressed upon the importance of smooth deliverance of legal aid to the deserving litigants. He directed the District Administration to coperate with the District Judiciary for smooth deliverance of justice in the region.

During the ceremony,  Justice Sanjeev Kumar presented engagement order to the newly appointed, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Kargil, Syed Mehdi Aga (Advocate) and Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Kargil Nissar Hussain (Advocate) and felicitated the Counsels.


He also assured to give an interim victim compensation of Rs 2 lakh under head Ladakh Victim Compensation Scheme 2022 to the victim of Crime belonging to Zanskar which is a remote area of Kargil district.

Later, Justice Sanjeev Kumar held a meeting with members of the District Bar Association Kargil led by the President Reyaz Ahmad Khan along with Judicial Officers at District Court Complex Kargil. He also addressed the Judicial Officers regarding disposal of cases which are pending for adjudication.

After the meeting, Justice Sanjeev Kumar accompanied by Member Secretary LLSA along with Judicial Officers visited the construction site of New Court Complex at Kurbathang, Kargil to review the progress. He issued certain instructions on the spot for speedy completion of the project.
