Jammu, June 4: The Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu on Day 3 of its ongoing internship program, Wednesday, organised multiple sessions for the students of Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar.

Yogesh Manshas, editor-in-chief, We the Indian TV and senior photojournalism educator, shared his expertise in visual storytelling, emphasizing the importance of capturing compelling images that complement journalistic narratives. He discussed techniques for effective photography, the role of visuals in media, and the evolving trends in photojournalism, inspiring students to hone their skills in this dynamic field.

Sumit Sharma, a celebrated theatre expert, introduced students to the intersection of theatre, media and mass communication highlighting how performance arts can enhance communication and storytelling. His interactive session focused on the importance of creativity, expression, and audience engagement, offering students a unique perspective on media production and presentation.

The internship program, aligned with the University of Jammu’s implementation of National Education Policy and its emphasis on experiential learning, is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry demands, following the farsightedness of Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai.

Prof. Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, expressed her enthusiasm for the program, stating, “These interactions with industry experts like Yogesh Manshas and Sumit Sharma provide our students with a unique opportunity to learn from professionals who bring real-world expertise to the classroom. Our goal is to prepare students for the challenges of the modern media landscape.”

Other faculty members, including Prof Dushyant Kumar Rai, Dr Pardeep Singh Bali, Dr Ramiyan Bharadwaj and Kumerjit Chajgotra also engaged the students throughout the day.

JAMMU: The second day of the Three-Day Workshop on Post-Production Techniques, organized by the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, University of Jammu, featured hands-on training sessions by renowned filmmakers and cinematographers Brajesh Mishra and Atul Vinod Duggal. The workshop aimed to provide students with industry-oriented practical knowledge in the dynamic field of post-production in film and media.

Advanced Editing Techniques and Practical Insights

The interactive sessions focused on advanced video editing techniques, offering participants in-depth insights into post-production workflows. The workshop emphasized the significance of narrative editing, visual storytelling, color grading, and sound design, which are essential components of modern filmmaking and digital media production.

Welcome Address and Industry-Oriented Training

The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Prof Garima Gupta, Head of the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, who introduced the resource persons to the students. Prof Gupta highlighted that the workshop is designed to equip students with practical skills in post-production workflows to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry demands.

"By engaging directly with experienced professionals, students will develop critical technical skills that are indispensable for careers in journalism, filmmaking, and digital media content creation," said Prof Gupta.

In his session, Brajesh Mishra shared his expertise on narrative editing, sequencing, and visual storytelling, stressing the impact of editing on the final output of a production. He demonstrated various editing styles and techniques used in cinematic storytelling, helping students understand how to elevate the emotional and visual appeal of their work.

Simultaneously, Atul Vinod Duggal conducted a session on the technical aspects of editing software, including color grading and sound design. He also underlined the importance of pacing and rhythm in video editing, illustrating real-world examples from his professional projects.
