UDHAMPUR: Senior Congress leader and prominent campaigner, Raj Babbar, delivered a scathing critique of the BJP-led central government, accusing it of perpetrating grave injustices against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a massive rally in support of Congress candidate Choudhary Lal Singh for the Udhampur parliamentary constituency, Babbar highlighted widespread discontent with the Modi administration’s policies, which he described as “anti-youth, anti-poor, and anti-farmer.”

Addressing the crowd ahead of the April 19 polls, Babbar emphasized the need for electoral change to rectify the injustices inflicted upon the region by the BJP. He specifically condemned the Agnipath military recruitment scheme, asserting that it dashed the aspirations of Kashmiri youth to join the armed forces. Babbar pledged that the Congress would abolish the scheme and reinstate regular recruitment drives if voted into power.

The rally also featured speeches from former Union minister Bharat Singh Solanki, Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani, Lal Singh, and National Panthers Party leader Harshdev Singh. Babbar reiterated the Congress’s commitment to providing relief to youth, farmers, women, and workers, as outlined in its manifesto. He endorsed Lal Singh as a champion against injustice, advocating for the rights of the marginalized.

Solanki echoed Babbar’s sentiments, denouncing the BJP for stripping Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and dignity through the abrogation of Article 370. He pointed out the influx of BJP leaders into Udhampur for campaigning, suggesting a groundswell of support for change among the electorate.

Wani lambasted the BJP and Modi government for undermining democracy in Jammu and Kashmir, accusing them of depriving the region of its rights and resources. Lal Singh assured the gathering of his continued advocacy for the dignity and rights of the people, who he claimed had been disenfranchised by the BJP government.
