BUDGAM, APRIL 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam in collaboration with AICRP on Seed (Crops) NSP, Shalimar SKUAST Kashmir today organized an input distribution programme under Tribal Sub-Plan at KVK Budgam.

About 50 tribal farmers of village Lobran, Khag Block received 10q of high yielding SKUAST-K released variety of paddy seed (SR4) and Seed bins (50).

Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-K, chief guest on the occasion, stressed the need for adoption and dissemination of the high yielding university-released variety of Paddy.

Explaining about the benefits of the SR4 paddy variety, Director Extension, SKUAST-K said that the variety is climate resilient, less susceptible to diseases and has the potential to tolerate adverse weather conditions. She also briefed the farmers about the role of SKUAST-K in augmenting research in agriculture to facilitate the farming community in the valley.

Dr. Bilal Ahmad Lone (Prof. & Head KVK Budgam) briefed the tribal farmers about the role of KVK Budgam in facilitating agriculture and allied activities in the district through on farm trials, front line demonstrations and skill-based training/awareness programmes. He encouraged the farmers to avail the services of the Kendra for more profitable farming.

Dr. Gowhar Ali (Assoc. Prof. NSP) and Dr. Aflak Hamid (Assoc. Prof. NSP) deliberated upon the Package of Practices to be adopted for the SR4 variety.

Scientists and technical staff of KVK Budgam and NSP also attended the programme.

 

Directs time-bound execution of works under Health, Education, PDD & Jal Shakti Sectors approved under DMF

BUDGAM, APRIL 08: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo today chaired a meeting of District Mineral Fund (DMF) to review the status of works approved under Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojna (PMKKKY) in the district.

DC reviewed the status of works approved under DMF in the areas with high priority and other priority sectors.

The series of developmental works amounting to Rs.327.71 lakh covers vital sectors including Health, Education, Power Development and Jal Shakti, aiming to strengthen public infrastructure and improve service delivery across the district.

Key works approved under the Health sector include the provision of hotline connectivity at CHC Kremshore, CHC Chattergam, PHC Soibugh, PHC Ompora, PHC Khag, and CHC Pakherpora. In addition, procurement of critical medical equipment such as digital X-ray cassettes, biochemistry analysers, deep freezers, plasma expressers, autoclaves, and microscopes for District Hospital Budgam was approved.

Under the Jal Shakti Department, the procurement of water tankers of 9000-litre and 6000-litre capacities will address water supply needs in the district.

In the Education sector, works include the construction of a toilet facility at Mixed Primary School Gopalpora and provision of electricity at Government schools in Khan Mohalla Kuzwera and Dounkal Bagh Sail.

The Power Development Department will establish a buffer stock of 15 (100 KVA) transformers to strengthen power infrastructure and ensure timely replacements during exigencies.

The DC, while reviewing the status of approved works, emphasized that all the projects have been identified based on priority public needs and sectoral gaps.

He directed the concerned departments to ensure immediate initiation of tendering and procurement processes, with strict adherence to timelines.

He stressed that there must be no delays at any stage of execution and that timely completion of these works is critical to ensuring outcomes on the ground on time.

The DC further instructed regular monitoring and submission of progress reports to his office for review.

The meeting was attended by Superintending Engineer Hydraulic Circle, Budgam, CEO, CMO, Executive Engineers of Jal Shakti, KPDCL, REW, MS Budgam and other concerned officials of the committee.

 


BUDGAM, MARCH 14: In a significant move, as part of Calendar of activities, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam, under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority today organized an awareness programme on Bail & Legal aid for under trial Convicted and other prisoners at Central Jail Srinagar.

The programme was also held in consonance with the judgment dated:18-02-2025 passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in Suo Motu writ petition number 04 of 2021 titled IN RE: Delay in release of convicts after granting of bail with SLP (crl) No.529 of 2021

The awareness session, organised under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Atul Sreedharan Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services authority and Shazia Tabassum, Member Secretary of J&K Legal Services authority was held under the chairmanship of O.P.Bhagat, Chairman DLSA (Pr.Distt.& Sessions Judge) Budgam and supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam, who attended and monitored the said programme personally.

On the occasion Legal aid defense counsels of DLSA Budgam Shahrooq Bhat and Ab Rouf Parray spoke on the subject and apprised the under trial prisoners, convicts, jail inmates etc, about ways and means of obtaining free and competent Legal aid from Legal Services institutions for defending their cases at various Levels  free of cost. They also threw light on S.432 crpc and section 473 of BNSS etc.

They also deliberated upon the different types of bails pertaining to different categories/nature of cases and raised awareness among the inmates regarding the benefits that can be availed in light of the said Supreme Court judgment.

On the occasion, Secretary DLSA Budgam gave a presidential address in which she briefed the inmates about the services and schemes of DLSA meant for them and also imparted a wide range of awareness amongst them regarding the legal provisions etc. which they can get help from.

The programme witnessed the active participation of Incharge Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar, Shahbaz Hussain; officials of Prison Legal aid Clinic and PLVs existing at Central jail Srinagar, police personnel, jail inmates, PLVs of DLSA Budgam etc.

 


Budgam, February 21: In a significant boost to the healthcare infrastructure in Magam, MLA Beerwah, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani today inaugurated a mobile surgical eye camp and a fully automatic biochemistry analyzer at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Magam, in presence of Director Health Services Kashmir Dr Bakshi jahangeer.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangeer Ahmad Bakshi; Assistant Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Muzaffar Sharewani; Chief Medical Officer Budgam, Dr. Mohd Ayoub Fatehkhan, Dr Asmat IC mobile eye camp and  Chairman Civil Society Magam, Haji Mohammad Ibrahim Mir; besides  other senior health officials.

Speaking at the event, MLA Beerwah Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani assured that he would work tirelessly to ensure the hospital receives the best facilities. He appreciated the Block Medical Officer and staff for their exceptional services to the people of Magam and surrounding areas.

MLA Beerwah also urged the Director Health Services Kashmir to provide a laparoscope and digital X-ray machine to the hospital, in addition to upgrading the existing hospital infrastructure and utilizing the old hospital complex as a trauma hospital.

Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangeer Ahmad Bakshi, assured MLA Beerwah that all issues raised during the function would be addressed on a priority basis, with efforts made to expedite the resolution of pending hospital issues.

Earlier, Dr. Mir Mushtaq, Block Medical Officer Magam, welcomed the guests and presented a detailed overview of the hospital's functioning and challenges. He highlighted the need for advanced healthcare facilities in the region and expressed gratitude to MLA Beerwah for his relentless support.

Dr. Mohammad Ayoub, CMO Budgam, expressed gratitude to MLA Beerwah and Director Health Services Kashmir for the surgical eye camp and biochemistry analyzer, which will greatly benefit the local population.

The mobile surgical eye camp and biochemistry analyzer will significantly enhance the healthcare facilities at SDH Magam, benefiting thousands of patients of the area.

 


Budgam, February 12: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo, today conducted an extensive inspection of infrastructure projects in the Beerwah Sub-Division.

The in-site visit included the Receiving Station at Charangam, the Chewdara Bridge, and the Takiyabal Kangund Bridge.

During inspection of the charangam receiving station, the DC took status of the  progress of work and installation of all necessary equipment for smooth functioning of the project.

The DC said that the work on the charangam  receiving station is in final stage and a test commissioning will be conducted  by the engineers of KPDCL so that the project shall be formally dedicated to the general public soon.

DC said that with augmentation provided by the  Charangam Receiving Station, the smooth,  scheduled power supply along with optimum voltage shall be ensured to these villages and other adjoining areas in Beerwah.

He said that the district administration is committed to development of  power infrastructure across the district and will help KPDCL in meeting electricity demands of the consumers across the district. 

He said replacement of wooden poles, old wires, improvement on HT, LT lines, up gradation of receiving and distribution stations has also begun  across Budgam under RDSS scheme to ensure upgradation of power infrastructure in the district.

At  Chewdara, the DC reviewed the progress of construction of Bridge being constructed NABARD scheme, and will connect habitations across Beerwah.

He instructed the concerned departments to adhere strictly to the established timelines and maintain high-quality standards.

The DC also visited  Takiyabal Kangund Bridge site to inspect its development status. The work has been initiated on this bridge and is going on at an accelerated pace.

He underscored the  significance of the project in facilitating efficient transportation and improving access between various regions within the sub-division especially khag and Beerwah areas.

DC directed the executing agencies to ensure the project’s swift and successful completion.

He further said District administration is focused to ensure timely completion of these infrastructure projects, recognizing their pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the region.

Besides, Chief Planning Officer Budgam, Executive Engineer KPDCL, Executive Engineer R&B division Beerwah , Tehsildar Beerwah, EO MC Beerwah, AEEs and other concerned officials accompanied the DC.

 

Committed to speedy, sustained development: Dy CM

BUDGAM, JANUARY 25: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, along with Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, today conducted a comprehensive tour of Budgam district.

Member Parliament, Aga Syed Ruhullah and MLA Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar accompanied  them.

DC Budgam, Akshay Labroo, Chief Engineers and other senior officers of different departments were also present.

While addressing a huge gathering,  the Deputy Chief Minister said that the government has undertaken a massive development programme with special focus on far flung and neglected areas." We have already directed for fast pacing the initiatives meant for changing the socio- economic profile of people besides upgrading the basic infrastructure ", he added

"We are committed to fast paced and sustained development with regular monitoring for ensuring quality works. This has been done in accordance with the local needs and area specific development ", he maintained.


Responding to public demands, the Deputy CM announced the provision of 4 lane roads to Budgam. He also directed for conducting a survey of road from DC office to Humhama besides preparation of DPR for 4 lane widening of road from DC office to New bus Adda in phase -1.

Advisor to Chief Minister, while speaking on the occasion, highlighted various developmental initiatives undertaken by the present government since its formation. He said that a holistic developmental agenda is underway which would ensure transformation of Jammu and Kashmir.

MP Aga Ruhallah also enumerated various initiatives undertaken and assured for furthering the developmental agenda of the present dispensation.

The Deputy Chief Minister conducted a comprehensive tour of district and inspected several development works as well.

While interacting with scores of deputations, the Deputy Chief Minister assured them that the issues projected by them would be redressed within the shortest possible time.


 BUDGAM, DECEMBER 19: An awareness-cum-enrolment program on solar powered agriculture pumps under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme was held today in Budgam.

The session was presided over by Saurabh  Bhagat, Commissioner Secretary, Science and Technology department.

Akshay Labroo, Deputy Commissioner, Budgam, besides other senior officers were present on the occasion.

The event witnessed active participation from stakeholders including farmers and officials from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments besides representatives from J&K Bank. The programme was aimed at to create awareness and enrol  farmers under PM Kusum scheme enabling them adopt solar powered pumps to enhance agricultural productivity and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources.

Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner Secretary underscored the significance of PM-KUSUM scheme in advancing sustainable agriculture while ensuring clean and affordable energy solutions for farmers. He emphasised the government’s commitment towards empowering local communities while engaging local youth on need basis at the district level for maintenance and operation of solar powered machines.

He said special courses will be introduced in ITIs and polytechnic colleges to provide skill training and awareness about the PM-KUSUM scheme. These initiatives aim to generate employment opportunities and equip youth with the technical expertise needed for the scheme’s successful implementation.

During the awareness programme, an insightful PowerPoint Presentation was given wherein  numerous benefits of solar powered pumps including reduced irrigation costs, enhanced agricultural productivity and eco-friendly energy solutions were highlighted. The presentation also outlined the subsidy structure and the ease of availing the scheme. The farmers were encouraged to adopt solar technology for sustainable farming practices.

On the occasion, the DC emphasised the need for transition to renewable energy in the agriculture sector, particularly in areas like Budgam where farming forms an important sector of the livelihood. He urged JKEDA to conduct such programs in other sub-divisions of budgam also so that awareness reaches every beneficiary farmer. He highlighted the benefits available under PM- Surya scheme and called for its implementation across the district.

On the occasion, the progressive farmers and experts from the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments elaborated on the technical and financial aspects of the scheme including the process of availing subsidies and operational benefits of solar powered pumps.

The interactive session concluded with stakeholders expressing their enthusiasm for adopting solar powered pumps for sustainable agricultural practices.

Later, the Commissioner Secretary inspected the stalls where in demonstration of solar pumps was being shown to the participants.
