UDHAMPUR, OCTOBER 18: Government College for women Udhampur today organized an inter-house mehndi competition in the college premises.

The event was organized by the student welfare committee and Heritage club to commemorate the festival of Karva Chauth largely celebrated in North India.

The event started with the formal welcome of principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania by convener student welfare committee, Prof. Swarna Bhougal (HOD Political science) by presenting her a floral token of respect.

In her opening remarks, the Principal appealed to the students and staff to uphold their cultural identity by celebrating such events. She also remarked that mehndi or henna has many cultural and symbolic meanings and is applied in Indian weddings and other celebrations. Mehndi symbolizes good luck and positive spirits.
