Raja Ghulam Nabi Wani engages with athletes, motivating them to strive for excellence at Gindum Stadium, Srinagar.

Srinagar June 5th, 2025:  The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory is set to showcase its promising athletic prowess with the selection of 20 exceptional young players—10 boys and 10 girls—who will represent the region at the prestigious 20th Junior National Soft Amateur Tennis Championship. Scheduled for June 26th to June 30th, 2025, in Panchkula, Haryana, this tournament serves as a vital platform for the development of junior athletes nationwide.


The selection process, executed today at Gindum Stadium in Srinagar, was overseen by Raja Ghulam Nabi Wani, Chairman of the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association. The athletes were chosen through a rigorous merit-based evaluation, meticulously monitored by the J&K Sports Council to ensure transparency and integrity in the proceedings.

In his address to the newly selected athletes, Chairman Wani expressed his profound admiration for their accomplishments. "It is truly inspiring to witness such remarkable talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir. These young athletes have exhibited exceptional skill and unwavering dedication, and I am fully confident that they will represent our Union Territory with distinction, achieving commendable success on the national stage."

Wani highlighted the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association's commitment to grassroots development, asserting that nurturing young talent is vital for fostering a culture of discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship. He extended special appreciation to the J&K Sports Council for its consistent support in enhancing sports infrastructure, enabling such selection processes to thrive.

"This championship is not only an opportunity to compete but also a chance for our players to gain invaluable experience against some of the best in the country," Wani stated. He conveyed his best wishes to all the participants, encouraging them to strive for excellence and elevate their performance.

The selected teams will engage in a comprehensive training camp prior to their departure for Panchkula, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead. The entire sporting community of Jammu and Kashmir looks forward to their performances and offers its unwavering support in this important journey.


 SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 01:  Pledging its support to the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for a nationwide cleanliness drive, the special drives were conducted across all the sports facilities of the Union Territory.

The cleanliness drive initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi received nationwide attention, especially from all the sports buffs wherein the country’s premier blended fitness and well-being with cleanliness and leading the ‘Swacchata Hi Seva’ campaign alongside wrestler-turned-social media influencer, Ankit Baiyanpuriya.

With the onus to carry forward PM’s message of cleanliness and fitness, several cleanliness drives were conducted across all the sports facilities by the J&K Sports Council.

These campaigns received good support from athletes and trainees registered with the union territory's premier sports body.

The campaign was led by Secretary, Nuzhat Gull who participated in the major cleanliness drive at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar along with other staff members brooming the major portion of the path leading to the stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, Nuzhat Gull said that Swatch Bharat Abhiyan aims to create awareness among the citizens about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene, and encourages them to actively participate in keeping their surroundings clean.

“Maintaining cleanliness in our surroundings is crucial for ensuring good health as dirty surroundings can become a source of diseases and infections”, Gull added.

She also emphasized active participation in cleanliness all through to reduce the occurrence of infections and promote a healthier environment for all.

Nuzhat Gull said that J&K Sports Council has built a vast sports infrastructure and its upkeep and cleanliness are not only limited to the Sports Council, but everyone living in the vicinity of such facilities along with athletes has a role to play and today’s campaign is a reminder to the duty we all owe to the nation in our tangible way to keep the environs clean as it leads to a better quality of life besides enhancing the aesthetics of our surroundings, making them more visually appealing.

Nuzhat Gull also said that cleanliness has a positive impact on our mental well-being too.
