PAMPORE, OCTOBER 26: In a major step towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in Public Distribution System, the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) today rolled out first-ever digital weighbridge in Jammu and Kashmir at Food Storage Depot (FSD), Lethpora here.

The weighbridge was inaugurated by Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, Satish Sharma, in presence of MLA Pampore, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi. Senior officers from the FCS&CA department, officers from district administration, and local representatives were also present during the inauguration ceremony.


Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sharma said that the installation of digital weighbridge marks a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to bring technological transformation in essential service sectors. “This initiative will ensure accuracy in weighing, prevent pilferage, and enhance transparency in food grain handling and distribution operations,” the Minister maintained.

He further added that the government is committed to introduce digital tools and automated systems across all major food storage depots to ensure efficiency, accountability, and better service delivery to the citizens.

 MLA Hasnain Masoodi appreciated the department’s efforts and lauded the leadership of the Minister for driving modernization and transparency in the FCS&CA sector.

The commissioning of the digital weighbridge at Lethpora is expected to serve as a model for similar installations across the Union Territory, promoting accuracy and accountability in the management of food grains and essential commodities.

 


PAMPORE, AUGUST 18: Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development and Panchayat, Javid Ahmad Dar, today visited the saffron belt of Lethpora, Chandhara and Khrew in Pampore, Pulwama district, to engage with the saffron growers and reaffirm the government’s commitment to their welfare.

The visit underscores the government’s dedication towards preserving and promoting Kashmir’s iconic saffron industry.

During his visit, Agriculture Minister interacted with the saffron growers and took stock of their issues and concerns. These included irrigation challenges, real estate pressures and the need for modern agricultural technologies. He assured immediate redressal of their issues and emphasized the government’s efforts to strengthen the saffron sector through targeted interventions.

Javid Dar also attended a training program at the India International Kashmir Saffron Trading Centre (IIKSTC) in Dussoo, where he addressed the saffron growers, highlighting the importance of saffron as a cultural and economic asset.

 The event was graced by the presence of MLA Pampore, Justice (Retd.) Hasnain Masoodi and others.

Director Agriculture provided a comprehensive briefing to the dignitaries, joined by the Chief Agriculture Officer, Pulwama, the Administrator of IIKSTC and other officials. They highlighted the progress made under the National Mission on Saffron.

MLA Pampore discussed the regional dynamics and the importance of supporting the saffron farmers.

Javid Dar reiterated the success of the National Mission on Saffron. The introduction of e-auctions at IIKSTC has ensured fair pricing, with saffron prices rising from 80,000 per kg to 2,20,000 per kg in 2021-22, directly benefiting the farmers, he added.

 


PAMPORE, OCTOBER 8: Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, today visited Spice Park Pampore as part of Central Government's public outreach programme.

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, ADDC, ADC Awantipora, and senior officers of the district administration were present on the occasion.

During his visit, Union Minister took an extensive tour of Spice Park and inspected the processing units and other infrastructure. He had a comprehensive overview of the Saffron park's operations, emphasizing its crucial role in maintaining saffron quality and securing the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

The Department of Agriculture presented a brief overview of working of this Saffron park describing the pivotal role of this unit in maintaining the quality of saffron and inscribing the Geographical Indication (GI) tag on saffron produce. This recognition ensures the authenticity and origin of the saffron, further enhancing its value in domestic and international markets.

In a meeting with saffron growers, Dr. Pandey gathered experiences crucial for shaping policies supporting saffron cultivation and promotion.

The farmers, while interacting with the Union Minister, expressed happiness over the role nad efforts of Government in facilitating them saying that this intervention has led to a substantial increase in their incomes.

Later, felicitation ceremonies were held to honor individuals who had qualified for various beneficiary-oriented schemes. Besides, mementoes and prize amounts were also distributed among the individuals who had excelled in their respective fields by the Union Minister.

Union Minister highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to boost these industries, pledging government resources and support for local communities and economic growth.
