GANDERBAL, APRIL 23: In a powerful expression of solidarity and condemnation, residents of Ganderbal gathered Wednesday evening for a peaceful candlelight protest against the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.

People from various walks of life including civil society members, traders and youth came together in Sonamarg, Kangan and Clock Tower Duderhama, holding candles and placards to denounce the cowardly act of violence that claimed innocent lives and injured several others. 

The protestors called for peace, unity, and strict action against those responsible for destabilizing the harmony in the valley.

They expressed grief over the loss of life and emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Valley’s long-standing tradition of hospitality and brotherhood.

GANDERBAL, MARCH 14: Chief Justice High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Patron-in-Chief, J&K Legal Services Authority, Tashi Rabstan, today visited the District Court Complex, Ganderbal to take stock of measures concerning court management and infrastructure.

Present on the occasion were Abdul Nasir, Principal District & Session Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore, Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, Judicial Officers from the District Headquarter Ganderbal, Ragav S, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal, Public Prosecutors and District Bar Association, Ganderbal.

During the visit, the Chief Justice was accompanied by Mohinder Kumar Sharma, Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice and Jahangir Ahmad Bakshi, Joint Registrar (Judicial) Srinagar.

A ceremonial guard of honour was accorded to the Chief Justice by the District Police Ganderbal.

The Chief Justice inaugurated the office of Legal Aid Defense Counsel at the District Court Ganderbal, marking a significant milestone in enhancing access to justice for the people of Ganderbal. The initiative was a part of the Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) system, adopted by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to provide free and competent legal aid especially in criminal matters.

During his visit, the Chief Justice inspected the court complex, reviewed the functioning of e-Sewa Kendra, Judicial infrastructure of various courts and also took stock of court functioning.

The Chief Justice directed all the judicial officers to work hard for the cause of justice and dispose of the old and targeted cases especially which are more than 10 years old on priority, up keeping the faith of general public in court’s functioning. He also emphasized that the facility of e-Seva Kendra be made fully functional and its benefits must reach to the litigants of Ganderbal for filling of their cases through e-mode.

The Chief Justice also held interactive meetings with the judicial officers and Bar members, where the paucity of space for judicial infrastructure and chambers for advocates was raised.

In response, Deputy Commissioner apprised the Chief Justice that 45 kanal of land has already been identified for construction of new Court complex, Ganderbal for which DPR has been prepared and submitted to the higher authorities.

The Chief Justice also directed the Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to construct prefabricated structures, including necessary furniture on a priority basis for lawyer’s chambers.

GANDERBAL, MARCH 3: The District Level Implementation Committee (DLIC) of Ganderbal, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore approved 54 cases under various Mission Youth schemes.

The approved cases include 27 under the Mumkin scheme, 19 under Tejaswini, and 8 under the Spurring Entrepreneurship Initiative (SEI).

These initiatives aim to empower the youth of the district by providing financial and infrastructural support for self-employment and entrepreneurship.

The meeting was attended by the Chief Planning Officer, General Manager of the District Industries Centre, Lead District Manager, Assistant Director of Employment, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, District Nodal Officer JKEDI, District Officer KVIB, and other concerned officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and encouraged eligible candidates to take advantage of these schemes. He reiterated that the administration is focused on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and fostering an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the district.

The Mission Youth schemes have been instrumental in uplifting young entrepreneurs, particularly women and unemployed youth, by providing necessary financial assistance, skill training, and mentorship.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the administration for their support and pledged to make the most of the opportunities provided to them.

GANDERBAL, MARCH 01: Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, Judge High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh and Administrative Judge for District Ganderbal, visited the District Court Complex Ganderbal today to assess the judicial infrastructure and review the functioning of the courts. 

Upon arrival, Justice Wani was warmly welcomed by Abdul Nasir, Principal District & Session Judge Ganderbal; Jatin Kishore, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and Judicial Officers of District Headquarter Ganderbal.

Upon his arrival, Justice Wani was accorded a guard of honor by the District Police Ganderbal.

During the visit, Justice Wani chaired a meeting with the District Bar Association Ganderbal. The meeting was attended by Principal District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal, Abdul Nasir, and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore. The Bar Association representatives highlighted various issues affecting their work, particularly the lack of adequate space.

They requested the construction of prefabricated structures within the court premises for advocates, along with the provision of an ATM facility. 

On this, Justice Wani directed the Deputy Commissioner for preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the prefabricated structures, including necessary furniture, on a priority basis.

He emphasized that addressing these infrastructural challenges is crucial for the smooth functioning of the judiciary and the convenience of both advocates and litigants. 

He also inspected the judicial work of all courts at the District Headquarter in Ganderbal. He interacted with judicial officers, encouraging them to perform their duties independently, impartially, and without fear or favour and prioritizing old & targeted cases which are more than five years old for their disposal.

Justice Wani urged judicial officers to work with dedication, honesty, and zeal to uphold the rule of law. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards of judicial administration and ensuring timely delivery of justice to the litigants.

Reviews Fisheries sector at Kangan, inspects functioning of Trout Fish Farm Mammer

GANDERBAL,  FEBRUARY 23: Minister for Agriculture Production Department and Rural Development Department, Javed Ahmad Dar, today underlined the need to tap vast employment potential in the fisheries sector in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister stated this during his visit to the Trout Fish Farm Mammer, conducted to review its functioning and assess developments in the fisheries sector.

The Minister was accompanied by MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali besides others.


The Minister highlighted the huge potential of employment and economic  generation in the Fisheries sector and urged the youth to take fish farming as sustainable economic activity.

Emphasizing the need for technical awareness among the private fish farmers, the Minister directed the officials to conduct frequent field visits and educate the farmers on modern fish culture practices. He also encouraged the youth to engage in fish farming, highlighting its potential as a viable employment avenue under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP).

Earlier, the Minister visited Khyber Aquaculture at Akhal, Kangan, where he reviewed the infrastructure developed by the private company for raising Rainbow Trout using the advanced Recirculatory Aquaculture System (RAS).

 The Minister toured the facility, appreciating its eco-friendly practices and state-of-the-art machinery aimed at sustainable trout farming.


Commending the efforts of private entrepreneurs, the Minister emphasized the crucial role of the private sector in boosting the economy of the Union Territory. He remarked that initiatives like Khyber Aquaculture will not only strengthen the regional economy but also create employment opportunities while promoting environmentally conscious aquaculture techniques.

During the visit, Director Fisheries, Abdul Majid Tak, Assistant Director Fisheries Ganderbal and other officials from the Fisheries Department briefed the Minister on the farm’s operations.

It was highlighted that the Trout Fish Farm Mammer recorded a production of 7 tons of trout fish and 1.5 lakh seed production during 2024-25. The expected seed production for the current year has been projected to reach 2 lakh.

The Minister was also informed about the private sector contributions, with trout fish production reaching 50 tons and carp production at 20 tons in district Ganderbal from 140 trout and carp ponds which are operational in the private sector within the district.

Additionally, it was informed that 200 angling permits have been issued this year, further promoting the recreational fishing.

The Director Fisheries informed that live feed seed from the farm is being supplied to other districts in Kashmir division, including the Union Territory of Ladakh.

GANDERBAL, FEBRUARY 11: Govt Unani Medical College Ganderbal celebrated World Unani Day with great enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of Unani medicine in integrating ancient healing practices with modern healthcare.

Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar who also holds the charge of Unani Medical College Ganderbal, attended the celebration as Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion she emphasized the relevance of Unani medicine in contemporary healthcare and reiterated that GUMC Ganderbal is committed to advancing research and education in this field, ensuring that traditional wisdom is effectively integrated with scientific advancements.

The celebration featured a series of insightful discussions, interactive sessions, and presentations by experts in the field of Unani medicine.

Faculty members and students showcased their ongoing research and innovations, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based approaches in traditional medicine. The event also included awareness programs aimed at educating the public on the benefits of Unani medicine and its role in holistic healthcare.

GANDERBAL, JANUARY 5: Secretary Rural Development Department (RDD) & Panchayati Raj, Aijaz Asad, today visited the construction site of Yatri Niwas at Mata Kheer Bhawani Temple at Tulmalla Ganderbal inspecting the progress on the project.

The Secretary was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir, Executive Engineer REW, Hamid Iqbal, ACD, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, AEE REW, Ilyaz Mirza, BDO, Gowhar Arzoo and other officials of the department.

The Secretary, while seeking all the details about the project, was informed that the upcoming Yatri Niwas will be a G+2 framed structure which will solve the issue of space requirements for the yatris during Mela Kheerbhawani to a great extent. The  building will accommodate about 900 to 1000 yatris at a time and is being constructed at an allotted cost of Rs 2.80 crore.

Aijaz Asad exhorted upon the Executive Engineer to redouble efforts for ensuring timely completion of the project. He also directed him to bring any issues with regard to clearances, if any, required from the trust with Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, so that the project can be completed at an earliest.

The Secretary asked the officials to maintain strict adherence to timelines to avoid any further delays. He stressed the importance of completing the project within the approved timeframe to provide improved facilities for the pilgrims.

VC SKUAST Kashmir urges pass-outs to think innovatively & contribute positively to society

GANDERBAL, OCTOBER 11: The Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil, Ganderbal, celebrated its graduation day today for the 2024 BFSc pass-out students with great enthusiasm and pride at Rangil Campus, here.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Vice-Chancellor SKUAST Kashmir Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganai as the Chief Guest, and Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal Shyambir, as the Guest of Honour.

Director Education SKUAST-Kashmir Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi, Dean Students Welfare Prof. (Dr.) Neelofar Banday, Dean Faculty of Fisheries Prof. (Dr.) Farooz Ahmad Bhat, as well as all Heads of Divisions, faculty members, officers of Faculty of Fisheries and the graduating students were also present on the occasion.

Speaking in the event, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganai praised the graduates for their efforts and urged them to think innovatively and contribute positively to society. He emphasized their role as ambassadors of SKUAST-Kashmir.

The Deputy Commissioner congratulated the students and promised full support for the development of the SKUAST-K Rangil campus. He also acknowledged the university's excellence in producing top talent, especially in fisheries science.

Earlier, Dean Faculty of Fisheries, Prof. (Dr.) Farooz Ahmad Bhat delivered a warm welcome to the dignitaries and spoke about the vital role of the fisheries sector.

He highlighted the achievements of the graduating batch and underscored the need for continuous learning and leadership in fisheries.

Director Education Prof. (Dr.) Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi stressed the importance of quality education in fisheries science and encouraged the students to use their skills for the betterment of society and the nation.

Graduating students expressed their gratitude to the guests and shared reflections on their educational journey.

On the occasion Vice-chancellor and Deputy Commissioner along with other dignitaries inaugurated the Vice-Chancellors Sports festival; besides, two books titled Communication and Journalism along with Fisheries Management were released on the occasion.

GANDERBAL, JUNE 29:  The annual Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2024 (SANJY) commenced today with the flagging-off of the first batch of pilgrims by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, from the Domail, Baltal base camp.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Sandeep Gupta; Camp Director Baltal, Camp Director Domail, Additional Camp Directors, and other officials from district administration, police, and security agencies graced the occasion, ensuring the seamless start of this significant pilgrimage.

The pilgrims, filled with enthusiasm and devotion, were seen chanting religious hymns as they proceeded towards the holy Cave of Lord Shiva.

The atmosphere was charged with spiritual fervor, reflecting the deep faith and reverence of the devotees.

In preparation for this sacred journey, comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure the comfort and safety of all pilgrims. Essential amenities, healthcare services, and robust security measures have been meticulously put in place at the base camps and along the route to the holy Cave.

The administration is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and spiritually enriching experience for all devotees participating in this pious pilgrimage.

District Administration Ganderbal extended its best wishes to all pilgrims for a blessed and fulfilling journey to the holy Cave.

The commencement of the Amarnath Yatra is a significant event, marking the beginning of a period of devotion and spiritual reflection for thousands of pilgrims.

Reviews arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra

GANDERBAL, JUNE 25: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today visited the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Base Camp at Baltal and reviewed the arrangements for the holy pilgrimage. He directed senior officers of the Administration, SASB, Police, Security forces and other stakeholder departments to coordinate with each other for better security and Yatra management.

At Baltal Base Camp, the Lt Governor discussed with the senior officers of Police and Security Forces the security arrangements in place for the safe and secure pilgrimage. He took first hand appraisal of preparedness of the Administration, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, health and disaster response teams and the service providers. 

The Lt Governor also reviewed the facilities including accommodation, food, connectivity, transportation, power and water supply, sanitation, RFID counters, health, availability of fire tenders, medicines, oxygen, parking facilities, telecommunication, Heli services, IEC Activities, registration of service providers, etc. 

The Lt Governor directed the officials to ensure that all the requisite amenities are in place and extension of seamless services to the devotees of Baba Amarnath Ji. 

He also interacted with the representatives of service providers and appealed them to provide every possible support to the visiting yatris.

Sh Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, CEO, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board; other senior officers of UT Administration, Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, Police and Army also accompanied the Lt Governor.

GANDERBAL, JUNE 01: Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner (M), Dr. Arvind Karwani, today had an on the spot review of arrangements being put in place for ensuing Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela-2014 at various locations in Kashmir Valley.

Pertinently, the Mata Kheer Bhawani Mela is scheduled to be held on 14th June this year, on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Ashthami.

The Yatra will be flagged off from Jammu on 12th June at 6 am. After a brief halt at Ramban, the Yatra will proceed for different destinations  like Tulmulla (Ganderbal), Tikker (Kupwara), Devsar (Kulgam), Manzgam (Kulgam) and Logripora (Anantnag) reaching the destination by evening. The Relief Organization will facilitate transportation of devotees from Jammu, as per the past practice.

Dr Karwani interacted with the concerned district administration, mandir prabandhak committee members and yatries to assess the status of arrangements related to  accommodation, sanitation, logistics, security and other basic  amenities. He asked the Deputy Commissioners to appoint a senior officer as nodal officer  for supervising and coordinating the Yatra arrangements in their concerned districts.

Dr Karwani, later accompanied by the site engineers, inspected various Transit Accommodations for PM Package Employees under construction in the North, South and Central  Kashmir.

Dr Karwani also interacted with the PM package employees putting up at various locations in the Valley. He listened to their demands like allotment of quarters, enhanced basic amenities and better education for their children.

The Commissioner assured that all their genuine demands will be addressed in a phases manner. He asked the Engineers to ensure quality work and speedy completion so that the quarters  can be allotted to the eligible  employees at the earliest possible, as per the criterion laid down by the Government.

Takes firsthand appraisal of arrangements at Kheer Bhawani Temple

GANDERBAL, MAY 21: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today conducted a visit to the Kheer Bhawani temple, Tulamulla where he convened a meeting to review arrangements for annual Kheer Bhawani Mela.

Threadbare discussions were held on lodging, bedding, repairing works of lavatory blocks, lighting, sanitation, barricading, establishment of joint control room, health facilities, parking of vehicles, fool-proof security, and availability of essential commodities, route plan and general face-lifting in and around the temple.

The DC directed the concerned departments for making necessary arrangements for uninterrupted power and drinking water supplies, transport, security, fire tenders, ration, accommodation, medical facilities, macadamization of roads and other related arrangements at the temple.

The EO Municipal Council was directed to start intensive sanitation drives within as well as approaching road stretch to the temple prior to the Mela besides signing an MOU with the authorities of Temple, shopkeepers and  Civil Society Tulamulla which will ensure daily garbage collection and maintenance of cleanliness.

The DC discussed department-wise facilities provided for the devotees. He stressed on the concerned authorities to be proactive and make every possible effort for smooth conduct of the Kheer Bhawani Mela.

Later, the DC took a round of the temple and reviewed arrangements put in place. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that the devotees visiting to pay obeisance are provided with requisite facilities, and foolproof mechanism should be put in place to ensure smooth conduct of this Mela.

The meeting was attended by ADDC, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani; ADC Ganderbal, Gulzar Ahmad; Executive Engineer R&B, Tehsildar Tulamulla, besides other officers from district administration.

GANDERBAL, MAY 18: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Ganderbal has conducted inter-school zonal level competitions across the district, in accordance with the planned calendar of activities.

In Zone Ganderbal, inter-school football and handball competitions for girls under-14 years were held at GCOPE Gadoora Ganderbal. The second day of the tournament saw participation from 17 teams, with students demonstrating their skills and determination despite the humid weather.

Zone Tullamulla also held a handball competition for girls under 14 years, with 70 participants showcasing their athletic abilities. Additionally, the zone conducted intramural sports competitions in football at BHSS Batwina, as well as kabaddi and kho-kho at MS Benhama, attracting a significant number of eager student participants.

In Zone Kangan a notable Kabaddi competition for girls under 14 years was organized at GHS Preng. The final match between BMS Preng and MS Chinner concluded with BMS Preng as the victor. Both the winning and runner-up teams were awarded trophies.

Similarly, Zone Hariganiwan hosted a Kabaddi event for girls under 14 years at BHSS Hariganiwan ground, with 85 participants. The top teams were honored with trophies presented.

GANDERBAL, MAY 15: The inter-school zonal level Football competition for boys U-14 years reached its thrilling conclusion at GCOPE Gadoora Ganderbal, with YSS Ganderbal hosting the final match between New Dreamland and Qamaria HSS Ganderbal.

The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Hartej Singh, Principal of GCOPE Gadoora Ganderbal, and Dr. Mushtaq Azad, as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively.

The final match was a riveting display of intense drama and excitement, culminating in Qamaria HSS Ganderbal’s victory with a 2-0 score line against New Dreamland.

Dr. Hartej Singh extended his congratulations to both finalist teams, recognizing their dedication and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Both the winning and runner-up teams were honored with well-deserved trophies, acknowledging their exemplary performances.

In parallel, Zone Kangan hosted an exhilarating Inter-school Handball competition for boys U-14 years at the Zonal office ground in Kijpara Kangan.

A total of 152 students from 14 schools of Zone Kangan actively participated in the event, showcasing their talent and sportsmanship. The meritorious teams were recognized and awarded trophies by senior officials, celebrating their outstanding performances.

Additionally, Zone Tullamulla organized an intramural Handball competition at MS Sehpora and MS Bunpora within the zone.

The Department of YSS emphasizes the significance of such intramural events in engaging the youth in games and sports, aiming to steer them away from the negative influences of society.

Similarly, Zone Hariganiwan organized an inter-school Handball competition for Girls U-14 years at BHSS Hariganiwan ground, witnessing participation of 116 girl students.

The event, organized by Sankalp HEW MS Ganderbal under the supervision of District Social Welfare Officer Ganderbal marked a significant stride towards gender equality and educational accessibility.

The stationary kits contain essential educational materials such as notebooks, pens, pencils, and geometry sets.

The beneficiaries, female students from Middle School GB Hariganwan, Middle School Baghi Surfraw, Middle school GB Thune and Middle School Syed Basti Surfraw received the kits as part of the ongoing efforts to support their educational journey.

GANDERBAL, APRIL 04: The District Youth Services and Sports Office (DYSSO) Ganderbal, in its inaugural phase of the activity calendar, kick-started a series of sports events across the various zones of the district.

Distt Admin committed to provide necessary facilities to enhance the experience of tourists during winter months: Shyambir

GANDERBAL: The picturesque Sonamarg is making history by hosting its first-ever national-level event in winter sports, the 8th National Snowshoe Championship-2024.

This event marks a significant milestone for the mountain resort, as previous editions of the championship were traditionally held at the renowned Ski-resort Gulmarg.

The 8th edition of the championship is being organized by the J&K SnowShoe Federation in collaboration with the Sonamarg Development Authority and key stakeholders viz. the Hoteliers Association of Sonamarg.

The event was inaugurated by Shyambir, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, in the presence of Farooq Ahmad Baba, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sonamarg Development Authority and General Secretary Snow Shoe Association J&K, Dr. Altaf-ur-Rehman.

Over 200 athletes representing 13 states across India are participating in various events throughout the three-day championship. This gathering of athletes from different regions further emphasizes the national significance of the championship and underscores its role in promoting winter sports in Sonamarg.

The DC expressed his delight at the hosting of the championship in Sonamarg, highlighting its potential to catalyze development and enhance the health resort’s prospects for a brighter future. He further said that the district administration is committed to providing all necessary facilities to enhance the experience of tourists visiting Sonamarg during the winter months.

CEO Sonamarg Development Authority extended his gratitude towards the Hoteliers Association of Sonamarg for making this event possible by providing boarding and lodging facilities for both visiting athletes and other tourists.

He further urged tourists from other states and our Union Territory to consider visiting Sonamarg during winter, emphasizing the unparalleled and picturesque experience it offers.

As the competition progresses against the backdrop of Sonmarg’s snow-covered terrain, spectators are treated to a spectacle of skill and athleticism. With its stunning scenery and the thrill of competition, the National Snowshoe Championship in Sonamarg truly embodies the essence of winter sports, making it a dream come true for enthusiasts and participants alike.

GANDERBAL, JANUARY 06: The inaugural Ice Skating camp at Sonamarg, initiated on December 24, 2023, marked its successful conclusion today.

 Organized by the District Administration Ganderbal in collaboration with local stakeholders, the event witnessed the participation of approximately 20 local boys who received expert training from Mohd Ashraf Dijoo of the Ice Skating Association of Jammu and Kashmir.

The collaboration with local hoteliers played a pivotal role in facilitating the camp, with support from the Youth Services and Sports Department, Education, Tourism, and the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA).

At the closing ceremony, a prize distribution ceremony celebrated the achievements of the participants, who were honored with medals and certificates. 

Notably, a contingent of national-level ice skaters joined to inspire and encourage the budding enthusiasts.

The diverse audience, comprising stakeholders, tourists, and locals, expressed their appreciation for the event, advocating for its continuity as a regular feature in Sonamarg. 

This positive sentiment aligns with the collective belief that such events contribute significantly to the destination’s appeal.

Chief Executive Officer of SDA commended the efforts of officers and stakeholders, expressing gratitude and acknowledging their crucial role in making the event a success. He emphasized that such initiatives would undoubtedly contribute to enhancing tourism in Sonamarg.

DC Ganderbal chairs DLC meeting on implementation of Bye-Laws for Strict Waste Management

GANDERBAL, JANUARY 05: District level Committee of SBM (G) 2.0 was  held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal (Chairman District level Committee), Shyambir  on implementation of Bye-Laws for Solid Waste Management (SWM) in Panchayat halqas at VC Room of Mini Secretariat, here.

At the outset, the DC deliberated upon the importance of SBM (G) being taken as a priority area by the Govt.

During the course of the meeting several issues were discussed and decisions were taken accordingly.

The meeting discussed compilation and submission of details of Households, Commercial Establishments, Govt./private institutions, mixed Model of Waste Collection in Rural Areas, operationalization of Segregation sheds and PWMUs, Awareness, collection of usage charges and others.

The chair stressed upon the Block Development Officers for submitting the halqa wise list of Households, Commercial Establishments, Govt./private institutions as per the formats so that the halqa wise targets to the sanitation mentoring officers can be set in order to have a hassle-free mechanism for collection of user charges.

The DC after a thorough discussion with the committee decided to adopt the mixed model mechanism of waste collection in the rural areas. The accessible/ motorable areas are to be covered by door-to-door waste collection.

BDOs were directed to carry out a thorough survey in their respective blocks and submit a list of points that are inaccessible/non-motorable along with their latitudes and longitudes so that the same points may be cleared by the EOI agencies on a timely basis.

The chair stressed upon the operationalization of Segregation sheds and PWMUs. The Exen PDD was given clear instructions to make the power supply available to the already constructed segregation sheds and PWMUs within a weeks-time.

The installation of available machinery shall be done by the concerned vendor/agency in coordination with the KPDCL.

Instructions were passed to all Block Development Officers for active involvement of their concerned DDCs, BDCs, Sarpanchs and other stakeholders for creating awareness among common masses by uploading videos regarding the importance of SWM and timely payment of monthly user charges, helping the administration to implement the SWM in real sense.

It was also decided that collection user charge drive shall start from 8th of January 2024 to 15th of January 2024 under the supervision of BDOs.

The DC directed all the Block Development officers to create a whats app group that shall act as a control room/helpline for the common masses.

The grievances so received shall be consolidated and disposed-off on a daily basis.

While discussing the segregation and forward linkage of the solid waste, the DC directed the Assistant Commissioner Panchayats to Liaise with the M/S Swaaha for allotment of a Block/Cluster as a model for segregation and providing forward linkage of the solid waste, so that the same may be replicated in other blocks

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development Ganderbal, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats Ganderbal, Exen (PDD) Ganderbal, District Panchayat Officer Ganderbal and Block Development Officers of the district.
