GANDERBAL, AUGUST 20: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today inaugurated the Administrative Block and Amphitheatre at Central University of Kashmir, Tulmulla Campus, Ganderbal.



In his address, the Lieutenant Governor spoke about the need for vital contribution by academicians and students as India is poised for significant growth over the next two decades with the ultimate objective of Viksit Bharat@ 2047.

“Our growth model should focus on creating human capital that can contribute significantly to economic growth,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the importance of providing an engaging learning environment, foster critical thinking and life skills, problem solving and innovation among students.

“We must get rid of 'Sab Chalta hai Attitude' and make revolutionary changes in the old curriculum of Colleges and Universities to transform India into a knowledge economy. Our topmost priority should be investment in human capital, innovation and research.

Jhajjar Kotli – 19 August 2025: In a significant step towards bolstering rural banking infrastructure and economic empowerment, Devyani Rana, Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), today inaugurated a new branch of the Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) Bank in Dammi village, located in the Jhajjar Kotli area of the Nagrota constituency.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by local residents, community leaders, and officials from ICICI Bank. Speaking on the occasion, Devyani Rana emphasized the importance of accessible financial services in rural and semi-urban areas. She highlighted that this initiative marks a step forward towards inclusive development, financial literacy, and economic self-reliance.

"The opening of this ICICI Bank branch is more than just the launch of a financial institution—it is a gateway to new opportunities for the people of Dansal and surrounding areas. Access to credit, savings, and financial tools will empower local entrepreneurs, farmers, women, and youth," said Devyani Rana.

She further added that such initiatives will give a much-needed fillip to the socio-economic development of the region, enabling employment, enterprise creation, and better livelihood prospects. The availability of banking services at the doorstep will reduce dependence on distant financial hubs and help circulate wealth within the local economy.

Officials from ICICI Bank assured the public of seamless and customer-friendly services, including agricultural loans, MSME support, digital banking, and schemes tailored for rural households.

The establishment of this new bank branch is seen as a vital stride towards prosperity, self-sufficiency, and inclusive growth in the Nagrota constituency, reinforcing the broader agenda of "Viksit Bharat" and youth-driven development.

 

Satish Sharma emphasizes development of border sports, allied infrastructure

SRINAGAR, JULY 1: In a major stride towards youth led national development, the YUVA CONNECT initiative under the Viksit Bharat@2047 mission has been launched to ignite civic awareness, leadership and active participation among India’s young population.

Spearheaded by the Union Ministry for Youth Affairs and Sports, the initiative is being implemented across premier higher education institutions in Jammu and Kashmir. These included IIT Jammu, IIM Jammu, NIT Srinagar, Jammu University, SMVDU, AIIMS Vijaypur and various degree colleges.

The initiative was formally introduced during an informative session that outlined the implementation framework, with activities and timelines as per the Concept Note circulated by the Ministry.

The interactive virtual session was chaired by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya and was attended by Sports Ministers for different States/UTs of the country.


Speaking during the interaction session, Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Satish Sharma, emphasized the pivotal role of youth in shaping a progressive nation. He said, “YUVA CONNECT is not just a program, it’s a movement to empower our students with the tools of leadership, civic responsibility and innovation. As we march towards a developed India by 2047, our youth must be at the forefront, acting as torchbearers of social transformation and inclusive development.”

The Minister highlighted the need for developing border sports and allied infrastructure in J&K, promoting economic upliftment and provide psychological relief to the residents living in tense border environments. He urged the Union Sports Ministry for prioritising the border areas by providing special financial assistance/package in order to built a better Sports infrastructure and to create a conducive sports environment in these vulnerable areas.

“Our border areas are filled with untapped potential for tourism. Developing this sector, along with robust infrastructure, will not only generate local employment but also provide a sense of normalcy and dignity to families living under constant stress near the borders,” the Minister asserted and requested the Union Ministry for its support in this connection.

During further interaction, Satish Sharma put forth suggestions for a mega plantation drive across the country during inauguration of the Yuva Connect programme, as an initiative for more greener India.


 Empowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for VIKSIT BHARAT

JAMMU: On the occasion of National Science Day 2025 and Rare Disease Day, the Science Club 'Utsaah' at the University of Jammu organized an insightful interactive session, highlighting the critical role of Research, Innovation, and Awareness in Reducing the Burden of Rare Diseases in Jammu, India, and globally.

The event featured a comprehensive talk by Dr. Nisha Kapoor, Senior Assistant Professor at the School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu. Dr. Kapoor shed light on the University's ongoing research initiatives on rare diseases, particularly focusing on Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) — a genetic form of diabetes that manifests before the age of 25. She presented statistical data on the prevalence of rare diseases across the world, India, and Jammu, underscoring the need for greater awareness and collaborative research.

The interactive session was moderated by Dr. Chinmoyee Maharana, Coordinator of Science Club 'Utsaah', who emphasized the importance of observing such days to foster dialogue on rare diseases. Dr. Maharana reiterated the National Science Day 2025 themeEmpowering Indian Youth for Global Leadership in Science & Innovation for VIKSIT BHARAT. She highlighted how scientific advancements and targeted awareness campaigns can pave the way for breakthrough therapeutics in rare diseases.

A notable discussion revolved around the recent in-utero successful treatment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, offering a beacon of hope for patients suffering from rare diseases. The session also touched upon India's National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD), encouraging communities, especially in remote areas, to seek information on genetic and metabolic disorders such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis, and Gaucher's Disease.

The Chairperson of Science Club 'Utsaah', Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, applauded the informative dialogue, while the Convener of 91.2 FM Dhwani, Prof. Monika Chadha, commended the initiative for leveraging community radio to disseminate crucial health information. The recording was seamlessly executed by RJ Alok and Er Shubham Kotwal at the 91.2 FM Dhwani JU studio.

By utilizing community radio as a medium, this program is expected to bridge the information gap on rare diseases, empowering marginalized communities with vital health knowledge.
