MENDHAR, AUGUST 18: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today conducted an inspection of the under-construction Synthetic Athletic Track at Batidhar, Mendhar. It is a key infrastructure project being developed at an estimated cost of ₹600 lakh.
During the visit, the officials briefed the Minister that nearly 40% of the construction work has been completed so far.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress, the Minister emphasized the need to accelerate the remaining work without compromising on quality standards.
In a major boost to the project, the Minister also announced the commencement of additional supporting infrastructure at the site. This will include construction of change rooms, spectator seating tiers and protective works, sanctioned at an additional cost of ₹200 lakh.
These enhancements are aimed at improving the overall utility of the facility and preparing it to host athletic events.
Reiterating the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment towards promoting sports in border and remote regions, the Minister said the project will play a vital role in providing improved infrastructure and meaningful opportunities for the youth of Mendhar and surrounding areas.
MENDHAR, APRIL 04: District Election Cell Poonch today organised second leg of training for Election Staff here at Mendhar under the supervision of District Election Officer (DEO), Yasin M. Choudhary.
The programme aimed to enhance the preparedness for upcoming Lok Sabha Elections to ensure fair, transparent and smooth conduct of elections.
The training session featured demonstrations by master trainers on the proper sealing, installation, and functioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Forms were also distributed for postal ballots to officials attending training.
The polling personnel were sensitized about their crucial role during the electoral process. They were asked to strictly follow the guidelines of ECI to ensure the integrity of electoral process.
The District Election officer emphasized upon the polling officers to perform their duties with utmost zeal and dedication, upholding principles of democracy and ensuring transparent and impartial electoral process.
Among others, SDM Mendhar and other officers accompanied the DEO during the visit. Similar training sessions were also conducted in Poonch and Surankote.

Mendhar Poonch, March 24 : In a landmark initiative aimed at fostering sustainable agriculture and economic prosperity, the Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM) Jammu, in collaboration with local sericulturists and esteemed artisan Dr. Rubia Bukhari, organized an enlightening Awareness Programme on Lavender Cultivation and quality planting material of lavender was distributed among the farmers Mendhar Poonch.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response from the community, with over 130-150 enthusiastic farmers gracing the occasion. Among the attendees were passionate individuals eager to embark on the journey of lavender cultivation, a venture poised to revolutionize the agricultural landscape of the region. More then 1.5 lakh quality planting material of lavender were distributed among the farmers by Dr. Siya Ram Meena, Senior Technical Officer at IIIM Jammu , Dr Rubia Bukhari , Dr Wajid Shah , Mr Akash Verma Technical Assistant IIIM Jammu and Mr Vinod Phogat Project Assistant IIIM Jammu

Drawing from years of experience and research, Dr. Meena provided invaluable insights into soil preparation, irrigation methods, pest management, and harvesting techniques tailored to the unique climatic conditions of Mendhar Poonch. His comprehensive discourse not only empowered the farmers with practical know-how but also instilled in them a sense of confidence and enthusiasm to embark on their lavender cultivation journey.
Dr. Rubia Bukhari, a renowned sericulturist and the visionary founder of the Dr. Rubia Bukhari Cocoon Artistry Initiative, expressed gratitude to IIIM Jammu for choosing Poonch as the epicenter of the lavender cultivation initiative. She emphasized the potential for success in lavender cultivation in a region already famed for its expertise in silkworm cultivation, foreseeing Poonch as the future hub of the purple revolution, following in the footsteps of Bhaderwah.
