JAMMU, MAY 01: The Labour Department Jammu today organized a ‘Run for Health and Safety of Workers’ to mark International Labour Day (May Day). The run was flagged off at 6:00 AM by Labour Commissioner J&K, Charandeep Singh here from Shram Bhawan, Railway Road.

          The run followed a designated route via War Memorial, Railway Station, opposite Ladakh House, J&K Bank Zonal Office link lane, Divisional Commissioner Office Jammu, and culminated at the Office of the Labour Commissioner J&K. The event aimed to promote awareness about the importance of health, safety, and dignity of workers across sectors.

A large number of participants, including officials of the Labour Department from Jammu District, employees of J&K Employees State Insurance Society (JKESIS), Provident Fund Organisation, labourers and individuals from various walks of life joined the run in solidarity with the labour class.

Notable officers who participated in the event included Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu Veenkashi Koul; Chief Accounts Officer, JKESIS Nimisha Anand; Assistant Labour Commissioner, Central Roopali Gandotra and Assistant Labour Commissioner Rupali Jasrotia, among other functionaries and staff.

The civil administration, J&K Police, Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Security personnel, and Traffic Police extended full cooperation, ensuring the run was conducted smoothly and successfully. The Labour Commissioner expressed gratitude to all departments for their unwavering support in making the event a success.

All participants were given certificates for their enthusiastic participation. In a special gesture, several labourers were presented with Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of their invaluable contribution to nation-building.

Adding to the spirit of the event, a ‘Wall of Gratitude’ was installed at Shram Bhawan, where participants penned down messages and signed in solidarity with the labour force, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the rights and welfare of workers.

Later in the day, a programme was also held at Industrial Estates, Gangyal, where Labour Day was celebrated in the presence of various stakeholders. The Association of Industries, Gangyal, actively participated in the event, with its President Varinder Jain and his team joining the celebrations. The focus remained on worker welfare, safety awareness, and collaborative efforts for improving industrial labour conditions. Officers of the Labour Department and representatives from industrial units engaged with workers, highlighting ongoing government schemes and initiatives for their benefit.

This meaningful initiative reinforced the message that the health, safety, and dignity of workers must remain a shared priority for all stakeholders in society.

 


JAMMU, MAY 01: Chief Justice High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli, today administered the oath of office to the two newly appointed Judges; Justice Sanjay Parihar and Justice Shahzad Azeem as Judges of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, in the Chief Justice’s Court Room here.

The oath ceremony was attended at Jammu by Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, Justice Rahul Bharti,  Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Justice Rajesh Sekhri and Justice Mohd. Yousuf Wani while Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Justice Sanjay Dhar and Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal participated virtually from Srinagar Wing of the High Court.

The proceedings of the ceremony were conducted by M.K. Sharma, Registrar General (Officiating) of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh who read the contents of the notification received from the Government of India, Ministry of Law & Justice, Department of Justice, the Warrants of Appointment issued by the President of India and the Letter of Authorization issued by the  Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, authorising the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, to administer the oath of office to the two newly appointed Judges.


The ceremony was also attended by the Former Chief Justices/Former Judges of the High Court, Secretary Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Deputy Solicitor General of India, Jammu as well as Srinagar, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu, Senior Advocates, President Bar Association, Jammu & Members of Bar, Officers from Civil and Police Administration and Officers & Officials of the Registry.

With the elevation of two Officers from Higher Judicial Services as Judges of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, the strength of  Judges of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has risen to 15 Judges including Chief Justice.

  

Minister Satish, Nasir, Sadhotra and Gupta pledge to uphold Labour Rights, pay tributes to Pahalgam Terror Victims

 

Jammu, May 1: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) today observed International Labour Day with solemnity and resolve at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, reaffirming the party’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the working class.

 

 The occasion was graced by prominent party leaders including Satish Sharma, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, IT, Youth Services & Sports, ARI & Trainings, Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to the Chief Minister; MLA Gurez Nazir Gurezi; Ajay Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary and former Minister; Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President; Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary; and others.

 

The programme commenced with a two-minute silence in memory of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and those who laid down their lives during the historic Haymarket Massacre in Chicago, a defining moment in labour history.

 

On the occasion, Nar Singh, President JKNC Labour Cell, presented a memorandum to the Minister and Advisor to the Chief Minister, detailing the pressing concerns of the labour class. He highlighted the urgent need for the government to address issues such as the implementation of minimum wages, regularization of daily wagers, casual and consolidated workers, revival of loss-incurring PSUs, abolition of contract labour in the private sector, creation of employment-generating non-polluting industries, timely DPCs, pension benefits to PSU workers, enhancement of budgetary support to PSUs, and resolution of issues like CPF interest loss and industrial policy implementation.

 

Minister Satish Sharma, in his remarks, said, “The foremost responsibility of the Omar-led government is to safeguard the rights and respect of labourers."

The Minister informed that a committee has already been constituted to address the grievances of daily wagers and casual workers. He also announced the proposal of two new IT parks under the visionary leadership of CM Omar Abdullah would generate massive employment for local youth and also emphasized the need to strengthen the cooperative sector. He assured full support for the demands raised by the Labour Cell, stating, “We are by the people, of the people, and for the people.”

 

Nasir Aslam Wani, while addressing the gathering, said that May Day is not just a ritual; it is a day to honour the contribution of our labourers. Our labour force is the backbone of our economy, and it is our responsibility to ensure their dignity, rights, and welfare are safeguarded. The present NC Government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah is fully committed to the upliftment of our skilled local youth and revival of industries to generate employment.

 

Speaking on the recent Pahalgam terror incident, Nasir Aslam Wani condemned terrorism in the strongest terms and stated, “The National Conference stands firmly with the nation and fully supports the Centre’s measures to eradicate terrorism. Our country will no longer tolerate cross-border terrorism, and Pakistan must face the consequences of its misadventures.

 

Ajay Sadhotra stressed the necessity of implementing minimum wages, streamlining the provident fund system, and providing pension benefits to labourers. He called for optimal utilization of labour welfare funds for the benefit of workers and their families.

 

Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President, in his address, highlighted the party’s legacy of advocating for the working class, describing labour welfare as an essential component of the “Naya Jammu and Kashmir” vision. He praised the enduring commitment of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah to the upliftment of the weaker sections and acknowledged Nar Singh’s dedication to the cause of the labour community. He urged the government to appoint a representative from the labour community in the Board of Director of each Govt undertakings to ensure their issues are addressed effectively. 

The Provincial President assured that NC would continue raising their concerns at the highest levels.

 

He reiterated that the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to industrial revival to provide employment to skilled local youth, citing the historic glory of Kashmir’s silk industry as an example of the region’s potential.

 

The event concluded with a renewed call for solidarity and justice for the labour class, reflecting the core values and commitment of the National Conference to build a just and equitable society.

BALTAL  (SONAMARG), APRIL 30: In order to take first hand appraisal of the Health facilities being put in place  for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, Secretary  Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, today visited Base Camp Hospital Baltal and Primary Health Centre  Sonamarg.

Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Jahangeer Bakhshi , accompanied the Secretary during the visit.

At the 100-bedded Base Camp Hospital in Baltal, the Secretary inspected critical medical facilities including Intensive Care Unit, trauma care section and oxygen generation plant besides accommodation infrastructure for the staff. He also visited PHC Sonamarg and inspected various section of the health facility.

The Secretary emphasized the need for complete readiness of all medical services well before commencement of the pilgrimage season.


He issued clear directives to all medical officers and yatra staff, stressing the importance of maintaining 24/7 emergency services, establishing efficient patient referral systems and ensuring adequate stock of essential medicines. Special emphasis was placed on coordination between the Base Camp Hospital, PHC Sonamarg and all medical teams along the yatra route.

Dr. Abid reiterated the administration's focus on delivering prompt, efficient, and compassionate healthcare services throughout the pilgrimage period.

 

Says those who may not have achieved their desired results need to stay motivated, focused on future opportunities

SRINAGAR, APRIL 30: Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo extended her heartfelt greetings to the students of 12th class who were declared successful in results declared today.

In her greetings, Sakeena applauded the dedication, hard work, and perseverance of students for achieving academic excellence. She added that our students have shown remarkable determination and achieved such brilliant results.

The Minister also extended her heartfelt greetings to girl students for outshining the boys both in overall pass percentage and top meritorious positions, adding that girls are excelling in every field.

The Minister also encouraged those who may not have achieved their desired results to stay motivated and focus on future opportunities. “Exams are just one step in the journey as there are many paths to success and each student has their own unique potential”, Sakeena stated.

The Minister also appreciated the JKBOSE administration for compiling the results in a short span of 36 days.

 


KISHTWAR, APRIL 30: In a significant step towards empowering the artisan and weaver community, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan today distributed registration certificates to newly constituted Industrial Handicrafts Cooperative Societies formed under the Financial Support Scheme of the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu.

The event, held in the presence of Assistant Director Handicrafts, Pardeep Shan, marked the formal recognition of two cooperative societies—United Crewel and Vibrant Crewel Handicrafts INDUSCO Ltd.—registered with the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu.

The societies have been established under the Self-Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999, aimed at fostering micro-enterprises rooted in traditional crafts.

As per the provisions of the scheme, each registered society comprising 11 artisans/weavers will be entitled to financial assistance of Rs. 1.00 lakh, disbursed in two equal non-refundable installments. The scheme also includes dedicated marketing support to enhance the visibility and market reach of local crafts.

 The DC lauded the Handicrafts Department and emphasized the importance of expanding the scheme’s reach to include more artisans and weavers.

He instructed the Assistant Director to intensify outreach and registration efforts across the district to ensure that the benefits of government schemes are widely disseminated.

Also present at the event were Mr. Abid, Supervisor INDUSCO, along with officials and staff from the Handicrafts Department.

 

Thousands gather to witness Traditional Folk Dance, pay obeisance to Devta Nagraj Vasuki

BHADERWAH, APRIL 30: The traditional Kud Mela was held with religious fervor and gaiety today at Nouri Hanga-Bhaderwah drawing thousands of tourists and locals. The event showcased the traditional Kud dance, a revered folk ritual of the Chenab Valley, symbolizing spiritual devotion, gratitude to local deities, and harmony. Artists dressed in colourful traditional attire performed the Kud dance to the rhythmic beats of drums and flutes, creating a captivating and spiritual atmosphere.

The event was attended by DDC Member Thakur Yudhvir Singh; Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh; SSP Sandeep Kumar Mehta; Commanding Officer 33 Battalion CRPF, Executive Engineer R&B (PWD), and other government functionaries. The local administration ensured tight security, cleanliness, and smooth coordination for the large gathering.

The Kud dance, especially performed in honour of Devta Nagraj Vasuki—the guardian deity of Bhaderwah—has deep historical roots and is traditionally held at night in open fields.

DDC Member Thakur Yudhvir Singh, a key organizer of the event, highlighted how such traditional melas strengthen communal harmony and foster cultural pride among the youth. The presence of CRPF and police officials underlined the commitment to maintaining law and order while celebrating Bhaderwah’s rich heritage.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Harvinder Singh praised the local community’s dedication to preserving this centuries-old tradition and emphasized the need to promote Bhaderwah as a cultural and tourism hub.

 


UDHAMPUR, APRIL 30: The District Information Centre Udhampur today organized a warm and impressive farewell ceremony in honor of Rakesh Kumar, Senior Assistant at the Information Department, TIC Ramnagar, who retired from government service today after an illustrious and dedicated career.

The farewell programme was attended by District Information Officer Rajinder Digra along with other officials and staff of the department.

The DIO and other officials lauded the invaluable contribution of Rakesh Kumar to the department. They appreciated his commitment, sincerity and the professionalism he exhibited during his years of service.

While extending best wishes for his retired life, the DIO expressed hope that his vast experience and work ethics would continue to inspire others in the department.

The programme concluded on an emotional note, with colleagues and peers sharing fond memories and extending heartfelt wishes for his future endeavors.

Later, as a mark of respect and affection, a memento was presented to the retiring employee during the farewell function.


Ensure adherence to SOPs, transparency in exam conduct: DC

PULWAMA, APRIL 30: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, today undertook a comprehensive inspection of all designated centres in the district for the forthcoming NEET (UG) 2025 examination scheduled to be held on May 04.

During the visit, DC sought detailed inputs from the concerned officers regarding the preparedness and infrastructural arrangements made at each centre. He thoroughly inspected strong rooms, CCTV cameras and surveillance setup and reviewed seating plans to ensure compliance with NTA standards.

He issued clear directives to the Centre Superintendents to strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the National Testing Agency (NTA), particularly regarding the receipt, storage, and dispatch of examination material, videography protocols, CCTV coverage, timely opening and sealing of exam packets, and secure handling of OMR sheets.

Dr. Qayoom emphasised the importance of coordination among all functionaries to ensure seamless conduct of the examination in a fair, secure and candidate-friendly environment.

DC further focused upon the significance of maintaining the sanctity of the examination process, directing that all procedures pre-exam, during exam, and post-exam be implemented meticulously as per the NTA’s guidelines.

He enjoined upon the Centre Superintendents, district officers and NTA representatives to work in close synergy to facilitate a smooth and safe environment for all candidates appearing in the exam.

DC was accompanied by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama and Awantipora, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pulwama, Tral; Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama; NTA City Coordinator and Centre Superintendents.

 


JAMMU, APRIL 30: Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Mandeep Kaur and Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, conducted an extensive visit to the Municipal Animal Care Centre at Roop Nagar and the SPCA Centre at Chowadhi.

They reviewed the progress on Animal Birth Control (ABC) program besides taking stock of associated civil works.

At Municipal Animal Care Centre, Roop Nagar, the dignitaries inspected the ongoing ABC program and reviewed the condition of sick and injured stray animals under treatment.

Mandeep Kaur emphasized the importance of maintaining hygienic conditions, providing timely medical treatment and ensuring humane handling of all animals. She interacted with the veterinary staff, directing them to maintain efficient records. She stressed the need to expand outreach efforts for stray dog sterilization to effectively manage their population.

At SPCA Centre Chowadhi, the officers visited the upcoming ABC Centre there, taking a comprehensive review of the ongoing civil works.

H&UDD Commissioner Secretary exhorted upon the concerned to expedite the construction and operational preparations. The new facility is expected to significantly boost the sterilization capacity, helping scale up stray dog sterilization efforts across the city. She asked the engineering and veterinary teams to ensure timely project completion and infrastructure readiness.

Abdul Star, Joint Commissioner (Health and Sanitation), Dr. Gaurav Chowdhary; Animal Welfare Officer, Ashwani Mitra; DFO Urban; Executive Engineers from the Electric, Civil and Project Divisions of JMC and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.

 


JAMMU, APRIL 28: Twenty existing entrepreneurs successfully completed a one-week Management Development Programme (MDP) orientation training conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), Jammu, under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) Scheme.

The programme was inaugurated by Sher Singh, Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu.

The MDP aimed to enhance entrepreneurial skills, business management, and sustainable practices. Key sessions covered the RAMP Scheme, Entrepreneurship Opportunities in J&K, and Government Sponsored Schemes such as Mudra, Start-up India, Stand-Up India, ASPIRE, PMEGP, ZED, LEAN, and SC/ST Hub initiatives.

Participants engaged in activity-based learning on SWOT Analysis, Supply and Demand, Marketing Strategy, and Business Simulation. Expert sessions by CA Shubham Gupta focused on GST, CGTMSE, Book Keeping, Working Capital Management, Break Even Analysis, and Risk Management through Insurance. Compliance and registration procedures were also discussed.

A field visit to industrial units was organized in association with Lalit Mahajan, Chairman, Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), offering practical insights into manufacturing operations.

Other modules included Project Report Preparation, Leadership and Decision-Making, Branding, Packaging, Marketing, and Digital Marketing for Business Promotion.

The programme was coordinated by District Nodal Officer, JKEDI Jammu, Rajesh Kotwal with support from the course team comprising Monika Salaria, Rupali Choudhary and Humera Nazir.

The MDP’s successful completion highlights JKEDI’s commitment to nurturing a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.

 


BARAMULLA, APRIL 28: Youth Services and Sports, Baramulla, continues to organize inter-school Wushu, Taekwondo and Yoga competitions across various zones including Sopore, Dangiwacha, Singpora Kalan, and Chandoosa to channel energy of students in positive direction and make them capable to represent J&K in national and international championships.

In Zone Sopore, a two-day Wushu and Taekwondo competition for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls commenced at Subhana Stadium Sopore. Today, the competitions for boys were held, witnessing enthusiastic participation of 60 boys showcasing their skills and competitive spirit.

Meanwhile, Zone Dangiwacha organized inter-school Wushu and Taekwondo competitions for Under-14 and Under-17 girls at the Community Hall Dangiwacha. Around 30 girls actively participated, and the position holders were felicitated with appreciation certificates, encouraging them to pursue excellence in martial arts.

Zone Singpora Kalan hosted Yoga competitions for both boys and girls at High School Singpora Kalan, where a remarkable participation of 150 students was recorded. The students demonstrated various Yoga postures and techniques, highlighting the importance of fitness and mindfulness.

Similarly, Zone Chandoosa conducted an inter-zonal Yoga competition for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls, in which 97 students participated. The competition served as a platform to promote physical well-being among the young students.

 


JAMMU, APRIL 28: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution condemning the recent heinous terrorist attack at Baisaran Pahalgam.

The resolution, moved by Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Kumar Choudhary, was put to voice vote by Speaker, Abdul Rahim Rather and subsequently passed unanimously.

The resolution read, “This House unequivocally condemns the heinous, cowardly act that resulted in the loss of innocent lives. Such acts of terror are a direct assault on the ethos of Kashmiriyat, the values enshrined in our Constitution and the spirit of unity, peace and harmony that have long characterized Jammu & Kashmir and our Nation.

This House stands in full solidarity with the victims and their families. We extend our deepest condolences to those who have suffered irreparable loss and affirm our collective resolve to share in their grief and support them in their hour of need.

This House salutes the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who, while bravely attempting to save the tourists, laid down his life. His courage and selflessness embody the true spirit of Kashmir and shall serve as an enduring inspiration for future generations.

This House commends the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their extraordinary display of unity, compassion and resilience in the aftermath of the attack. The peaceful demonstrations across the towns and villages and the spontaneous outpouring of moral and material support towards the tourists, reaffirm the people’s steadfast commitment to peace, communal harmony and the rule of law. This House endorses the diplomatic measures announced by the Union Government on 23rd April 2025, after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security.

This House is mindful of the sinister designs behind the selective targeting of the victims of this attack. It appeals to all the sections of the society and in particular the media to not fall victim to this sinister plot by irresponsibly inflaming passions. The need to remain united in the face of this attempted division cannot be overemphasized.

This House earnestly appeals to the Governments of all the States and Union Territories of India to ensure the safety, dignity and well-being of Kashmiri students and citizens residing or traveling outside Jammu & Kashmir, taking necessary measures to prevent any incident of harassment, discrimination or intimidation.

This House calls upon all the political parties, religious and community leaders, youth organizations, civil society groups and media houses across the nation to maintain calm, reject violence and divisive rhetoric and work collectively to uphold peace, unity and constitutional values”.

The resolution further read, “The Legislative Assembly of Jammu & Kashmir reaffirms its unwavering commitment to foster an environment of peace, development and inclusive prosperity for all its citizens and resolutely defeat the nefarious designs of those who seek to disturb the communal harmony and progress of the nation and of Jammu and Kashmir”.

Speaking on the resolution, Leader of Opposition, Sunil Sharma, while paying homage to the victims of Pahalgam attack, said that J&K is a paradise on earth, where people come to spend joyful moments of their life. He said that entire humanity has been shattered by this inhuman act and the whole country is in grief and shock.

Sharma said that a united voice in this difficult time is necessary to make these nefarious designs of terrorists unsuccessful. He added that no words can compensate for the loss of victim families of this horrible tragedy but the House wants to convey to the nation that people of Jammu and Kashmir are badly hurt by this inhuman incident and share their sympathies with all the victim families from across the country. He also said that J&K people have given befitting reply to the terrorists by exhibiting brotherhood and unity while condemning this heinous act.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that J&K people are short of words to denounce this cowardly act. He added that Kashmiris are known for hospitality and communal harmony across the country and globe.

Ghulam Ahmad Mir, while condemning the attack, said that people from every walk of life and every corner of J&K showed that these kinds of acts are despicable. He added that we need to remain united in this difficult time and send a strong message across the world that we will not let these nefarious designs of terrorists succeed.

Sajad Gani Lone said that people from every area and section condemned this cowardly and brutal act. He added that acceptance of this kind of violence has been completely negated by the people of Kashmir valley.

Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said such a heinous act cannot be explained in words saying that terrorists have no religion.

Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo) strongly condemned the attack saying that Pahalgam is known as one of the peaceful areas of Kashmir. He said that after 25 years such an incident has happened in Pahalgam and words are less to condemn this brutal act. He added that people of Kashmir, especially Pahalgam, need to be appreciated for providing selfless services and care to the injured tourists and others.

Muzaffar Iqbal Khan said no words are enough to condemn this cowardly act which has affected the whole humanity.

Waheed ur Rehman Parra said that this is a crime against humanity and not only a terrorist act. He added that people from all walks of Kashmir condemned it and showed that we are against terrorism through a series of peaceful rallies and candle light marches. He also sought martyr status for the victims of Pahalgam attack.

Shabir Ahmad Kullay also condemned this inhuman act in strongest words and paid glowing tributes to the victims of Pahalgam attack.

Sheikh Khursheed, while paying homage to the victims, said that memorials for victims should be established in Pahalgam. He requested all the MLAs to contribute for this memorial out of their salaries.

Mehraj Malik also condemned the gruesome attack and said that we need to be united and not let just four persons disturb the social fabric of our country.
