 Emphasizes on zero tolerance policy against drug trafficking

JAMMU, APRIL 10: To review the steps taken to curb drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa today chaired a meeting of the District-level NARCO Coordination Committee (NCORD) here.

ADC L&O, Harvinder Singh; CEO, Suraj Singh Rathore; CMO Dr Harbaksh Singh; DSWO, Mamta Rajput besides other concerned officials were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues pertaining to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments to curb the menace of drugs.

The Deputy Commissioner suggested a string of measures and asked the concerned to work in coordination at different levels to combat drug trafficking. She called for maintaining close coordination among the stakeholder departments and institutions.

The CMO and Drug Control Organisation were asked to intensify inspections of chemist shops, health centres and courier service centres to restrict illegal transport, sale and distribution of psychotropic drugs and other banned substances in the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the Drug Control Department to cancel the registration of the chemists who violate laid down guidelines under Drugs & Cosmetic Act.

The Deputy Commissioner also sought Action Taken Reports from all stakeholder departments about the measures taken by them to control the drug menace.

She directed all   stakeholders to launch a massive awareness campaign against drugs and also appealed to parents of teenagers’ and young children to keep watch on their children to prevent them from drug addiction.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the Jammu Administration has adopted a zero tolerance policy against drug suppliers and traffickers.
