UDHAMPUR, JULY 27: An awareness workshop on Agri-entrepreneurship in Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms was today held in University of Jammu Udhampur Campus.

 The orientation works was organised by the J&K Science technology & Innovational Council, Department of Science and Technology, J&K in collaboration with University of Jammu, Udhampur Campus,  and SKUAST-Jammu under the guidance of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu.

  Dr. Sumeet Gairola from CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu) was the Chief Guest, while Prof Sachin Gupta, PI, AICRP on Mushrooms, SKUAST, Jammu, was the resource person.  Shruti Khanna, District Coordinator, J&KSTIC-DST, J&K, was the special guest of the event.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sumeet Gairola, Nodal Scientist Aroma Mission explained the success of the Aroma Mission and purple revolution in Jammu & Kashmir.  This Mission has proved a game changer in the lives of progressive farmers and purple revolution has become an inspiration for the potential Agri-entrepreneurs for setting up their own ventures by using the aromatic and medicinal plants.

Prof. Sachin Gupta, Resource person, during his demonstration lecture sensitized the local communities and the participants about the cultivation and significance of mushrooms and various financial aids provided by the government at various levels and focused on the “Daksh Kisan portal” to be implemented in various educational institutions as desired by the LG, Shri Manoj Sinha.

Shruti Khanna highlighted the major initiatives and activities undertaken by the DST, J&K, all over Jammu & Kashmir for the upliftment and development of the local communities.

Earlier, Prof. Yash Pal Sharma, Rector Udhampur Campus extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and participants on this awareness programme at the Udhampur campus and hoped that the DST would further organize more such events for the welfare of students and society.

During the programme a Mushroom Information and Multilingual E-brochure on Button mushroom cultivation and massive plantation of high yielding varieties of lemon grass was also undertaken.

The event was attended by the students of various schools, Panchayat members, Men and women folks of Garnai Lotta area and faculty members and students of Udhampur Campus. The program was coordinated by Dr Mamta Sharma while Dr. Tarun Dubey presented the vote of thanks.
